What charities do you support? I personally only give to 3. They are The McMillan Nurses. R.N.L.I & the F.S.B.F. I don`t give to cold callers except things like the Tsunami appeal and the India/Pakistan Earthquake Appeal.

Cancer Research UK, NSPCC and Arthritis Care, which are all fairly personal to me.

If I had more cash I`d probably set up a few more DDs every month, but it can get a bit out of hand and all adds up.

Other than that, whenever there`s an `occasional` that comes around such as Comic Relief.

Then of course, there are the very drunken charity pub quizzes (none of which I notice are for Alcoholics Anonymous :-) ).

My collection

Oxfam, The British Red Cross, Unicef, War on Want and Free Tibet I have DD`s set up for, plus the DEC whenever there is an appeal.

I always give to cancer efforts, but always make an effort to give to charties or collectors collecting for things I`ve not heard of.
This morning at Charing Cross they were collecting for blind sports people.. I gave some money to them, because I think they deserve it.. good luck to them.

That reminds me of the blind village football team. They used a ball with bells in it so they could hear where it was. The team got dispanded after they were caught kicking the crap out of the local morris dancers.

They also ran a mile down the road after an old fire engine with bells on drove past. Ha..I kill me.

BTW do you know guys which charities really use the money given to them, and not being spent on admin cost, executive cars etc. I remember reading an article about the Xmas cards sold for charity and only a very small percentage of the sale was being used for the actual people that needed help.
I don`t have any DD setup, but give money regularly to collectors, but to be honest I am a bit concerned on what the money is being spent. One thing that i support is for example my son`s school was collecting bags of pasta, flour, and sugar to send away and I think that this a good idea as I can`t see an executive nicking half a ton of sugar/flour and take it home to the wife.

I dont actually give to any charity. Ive suffer from charity fatigue.

There are so bloody many that I end up giving to non of them. The things that annoy me are the charities set up to provide money for the things our taxes should be paying for (not annoyed with the charities, but the government).

If theres someone in the office doing something wacky for comic relief or someone sitting in a bathtub full of beans for Children in Need, I`ll stick em a fiver. But otherwise, they just sort of merge into one big charitable blur.

I know the MacMillan Nurses help. When my wife had cancer the asked what we needed and gave what we asked for. We all know were the money for the Lifeboats go to. It helps keep these brave men with the best of equipment.
And as for the F.S B. F. (Fire Service Benevolent Fund) that goes to the families of firefighters killed or badly injured in the line of duty. Mostly it`s firefighters and ex firefighters who donate, but when the public are asked for a donation they dig deep. Twice I collected while a was a firefighter and was deeply humbled by the affection the public have for them.
