Finally....got my hands on Sky+
Yup you read it correctly, got my 4 hour playabout with Sky+ today. My "product knowledge" course woohoo, got to see it working and see what exactly is different as well as prices and how it works.
All in all fairly impressed, the recording quality is great no difference at all as it records the initial signal and doesnt convert it to analogue then back to digital ala TiVo. Also has all the same functions as I have mentioned on these forums before, it was strange to see dolby digital as an option on sound settings and two signal strengths and qualitys too lol.
Anyway if anyone has any questions I should hopefully be better to tell you now.
When is the sky plus units avialable.Only with these units will you be able to watch dolby dig soundtracks from satellite.Cant wait.

RE: Finally....got my hands on Sky+
ive heard sky are doing some sort of budget plan for the sky+ box any idea on the price per month?
also my dish is on my chimney will sky replace that dish or is it illegal to have a dish on the chimney.the dish is below the roofline though
I`ll try to bat some of these questions, tho` no doubt our insider, Ickle Yoda will expand a little too
With regards to the placement of your dish, that really depends on your local authority, and also whether Sky Digital would be willing to install it on there. It may be the case that you don`t actually need the dish on your chimney, depending on where the nearest piece of space debris is that can beam the signal into your front room. You may want to check the planning permission angle with your local council too, altho` most are fairly accommodating when it comes to the metal dishes.
With regards to the "budget plan" I`m certainly not aware of anything like this, at least not yet, although Ickle can take the baton on this one. AFAIK the upfront cost is £300 for the decoder, £10 per month for the privilege of actually using it (remember, that`s on top of your subscription - this is actually the same subscription rate as TiVo) plus an installation charge of £50 (if existing Sky customer) or 100 notes (if not).
With regards to Dolby Digital output, Sky reckon that they`ll be broadcasting some movies on Sky Premier in glorious 5.1 by the end of the year.
Which is nice...
Anyway, hope this helps for now - over to you Mr Yoda sir....
RE: Finally....got my hands on Sky+
OK heres the deal regarding install. Only some Sky in home service engineers will be installing the system, no sub contractors. The cost of the package will be £300. This includes the dual LNB, the box and the remote control. Clayts is right with the rest, if you are subscribing it is a £50 install or £100 if you are not subscribing.
Also, if you already have sky you can have your existing digibox rellocated elsewhere in your house at the time of the sky+ install for £25 extra. The subscription will work out £10 to record monthly, plus £12 for each additional viewing card you have for other STB`s. Whatever package you subscribe to with sky+ is the same package on the additional cards.
The box also has to be connected to the phoneline indeffinitely. If it is disconnected or your modem in the box stops working your viewing will be tunred off, part of the terms and conditions is to have it continuosly.Anymore questions just ask people!
