My First DVD Player has died! My Wharfedale DVD-750 bought in 2000 has given up the ghost. Doesn`t whir as it spins - it clunks. And does not play the War Of The Worlds DVD.
Now I need to find a replacement player. Any reccomendations ofr a Tank dvd player under £40?
My first player was the Wharfedale 750, as purchased from Tesco`s for about £200!! And that was cheap in them days!
Happy memories...
I saw a DUAL dvd player yesterday in ASDA and that was under £40.
It also plays DIVX.
My first dvd player was a Phillips 680 and i paid £349 back in feburary `99 and that still works today. When i bought it,my wife said "that`s expensive. Do you think DVD`s will take off?"
Women!!!!
I purchased one of the dual DVD players from Asda (DVD-860) and it has played almost everything i have thrown at it (mpeg4 modifer is a must for DIVX, as most stuff has to unpacked for the player, but it only takes a min or 2 so it`s no big hastle). Can`t find any details of it on the web for firmware upgrades, i have e-mailed Asda but had no reply as yet as yet......
my wharfy is still going strong...

My Wharfedale 750s bought for a £100 from Tesco is still working though it is lightly used now since the ex threw the remote away and it wont read DVD-R,also it is the only DVD player that plays the two versions (on the same disc) of the Abyss special edition correctly (no pauses at all.).
I bought a £25.00 Yakumo player from amazon a couple of years ago and the picture quality is brilliant... :)
I would buy a cheapo Divx from Aldi if they have any people seem to like them. :)

I had a Mustek player that you couldnt operate from the unit, so when the remote got smashed it was only good for sitting there and staring at the damn menu. Stupid bloody thing. Also turned out it was more cost effective to buy a new player than to replace the remote.
Now thats a quality item..... :/
All glory to the hypnotoad

Sorry to hear of your loss. My Thomson (£120) is also on it`s way out, plays practically nothing these days. We purchased a cheapie pacific1000 from Asda last year for our oldest and plays all (not DVIX) we`ve got. Cost around £26 then, probably been updated now though.
