Richard Burns, 34. England`s only World Rally Car Champion (2001) passed away last night.

The BBC reports:
Richard Burns, who won the world rally championship in 2001, has died at the age of 34 after a long illness, on the fourth anniversary of his title win. Burns had not competed since he passed out at the wheel of his road car on the way to the Wales Rally GB in 2003. He was diagnosed with a brain tumour and underwent surgery in April.
Burns was championship runner-up in 1999 and 2000 before becoming the first Englishman to land the coveted world title 12 months later.

Being a Colin McRae fan, it was great having two world class championship winners in the WRC from our little Island. It was a shock to hear he had died, as the last time I heard the tv news speak of him, it was to say he was recovering and talking of getting back into rallying.
By all accounts he was very down to earth and liked by all in the WRC.
He will be missed by all of us who love rallying.

Cracking toast, Gromit!

... If found, please return this person to the insane asylum, as it really annoys them when people do that

oh-no, this is such sad news....a great driver and will be very sadly missed.

Not a good year for WRC with the loss of Michael Park as well....my thoughts are with all their families.

Really sad to hear the news - he was a really nice guy, i met him at the British Rally in Cheltenham when it was held there and i was studying there. Really nice bloke, happy to chat to me and other fans. Bad week for british sport this is turning out to be. It also makes you realise you really must live for today :¦
