Internet Explorer 6 is out

Much as 5.5 was this on the surface appears to be nothing more than a minor upgrade. The only new thing (apart from new icons) that Ive noticed so far worth even a mention is the cookie security feature which is actually very nice. Shame it doesnt have an anti-pop-up feature built in yet.

"Internet Explorer 6 takes the great reliability of Internet Explorer and improves upon it, offering a more stable and error-free browsing experience"

Obviously whoever wrote that never used any earlier versions. To describe them as having great reliability is pushing it. :)

However I hope this one really is more stable and error-free...

Rob, is this the official release now - it had been out as a beta test for a while ?

I`m just being lazy, so feel free to slander me repeatedly ;-)

At first glance it does appear to be more stable than 5.5, which had a nasty habit of crashing all the time in my experience.

It`s hardly a quantum leap forward though - it would probably have been version 5.6 had Netscape not already released version 6 of their browser.

I`m still using 5.01, and I`m happy with it ;-)

Im usually an insessent upgrader, but when it comes to Internads Explorer I only ever upgrade when I absolutely have to. I only moved from 5.0 to 5.5 on my Win2k box because I was suddenly having stability issues with it, despite not actually installing anything new. I only moved to IE6 the day it was officially released for the same reason.

If yours ain`t broke then I wouldn`t upgrade as there isn`t anything new worth upgrading for to be frank.

Btw do I have the only series of Quicktime browser plugins that always crash the browser halfway through any embedded video clip? Regardless of whether I use it in IE or NS?

Is there somewhere I can download it and us Gozilla??

I hate downloading big files from Microsoft because if you get cut off you have to start again!!

Or is it on a cover disc yet?

Not at the moment, it only came out Tuesday and MS are doing their usual download a small file first.

i tried it. It is slower , seems to take longer opening pages, and keeps pausing for anything for up to two minutes while browsing, so it has come right off again and now my pc is fine again. Had the same problem with the beta too so could be a bug i guess. Installed it on a freshly built pc too so no files held from the beta.
