The PC brigade gone mad again surely!!
Someone must be kidding me on this one!!
I woke this morning to here a news story on the radio that said a school in oxfordshire (I think thats the correct region) has changed the words of "Baa Baa Black Sheep" to "Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep" so as not to offend any, i believe the term used was, "ethnic groups".
Now I am no racist but it seems to me that if you are offended by a nursery rhyme that describes the colour of a living creature`s wool to be black then surely you need to look at yourself and not question others!! (to be fair I seriously doubt that someone has complained more likely its someone playing politician and ensuring they avoid any possible trouble)
What next? A rainbow ball for 7 points in snooker?
Maybe i`m missing something and if thats the case please enlighten me so I can retract the statement. It just seems utterly ludicrous to me right now
And off the soap box

Old news mate. This rhyme has been altered by many schools for years under the mistaken belief that the origins have something to do with race. It`s not going to bring the country down around out ears though so I wouldn`t fret about it.
Have a nice cup of camomile tea and relax.

"Baa baa rainbow sheep" doesn`t even scan, properly.
RE: The PC brigade gone mad again surely!!
My girlfriend has just finished teacher training and is in her first job. She has been told that the correct term is `baa baa woolly lamb`. Theres also no such thing as a blackboard - its a chalkboard!
RE: The PC brigade gone mad again surely!!
Well, thats `technically` correct, isnt it? As most Blackboards nowadays are actually green.
Funnily enough...(no, really) the mrs edited two packages for the news the other day. One was about this (which I conceed, is totally retarded as Rainbow has too many sylables..I pitched for `nice sheep`, but I digress....) and the other was about a guy in a shop who thought `F*** it` and has started selling Golliwogs again. The terrible thing is, he cant get them in fast enough and when asked, himself and the customers all trot out the same `PC brigade gone mad` and `Its just a harmless bit of fun` bulls***.
Would you say its Ok to sell and buy Golliwogs in this day and age or are all the complaints hes had the `PC Brigade gone mad`?
Where do you draw the line? When is it PC gone mad and when is it genuinely offensive?
Im not saying this sheep thing is at all correct, but I wish people would stop with this PC gone mad monkey crap as it often masks genuine issues, which the retards who bleat (lol)about it know perfectly well.
What im listening to (if youre interested)

Why not baa baa white sheep? Would anyone here be offended by that? This is f***ing retarded. And rainbow sheep? What idiot came up with that? Words aren`t inherently bad, it`s the context that`s important, and some people need to get a grip.
RE: The PC brigade gone mad again surely!!
Nick,
my "PC gone mad" comment is, in the context of my point, blatently not a load of crap.
If someone says something genuinely offensive I will say so and not continue down some "PC gone mad" street because I am not a total muppet and hence I think the risk of masking a genuine problem is not really a concern
Hence, as funny as your pun was, to say that because someone raises this particular issue (ie the sheep thing) they are "a retard bleating on about it" is a tad excessive (I accept for some the point may be true but i think they would be a minority not the majority - again that is my opinion)
still all`s fair in love and war so i`m happy to say the same for forum posting.
No offence taken or intended

Quote:
Golliwogs
My kids were asked at school to bring in toys that their parent played with when they were kids; My Wife`s parents dug out a `tiny tears` doll, mine dug out two things, my `Evel Knievel Chopper` (with winder) and my Golliwog for a laugh.
Mischievously, I let the kids take the Golliwog (they saw it as just another doll)...the headmaster called my wife in when she went to pick up the kids and lectured her about common sense and social responsibilities.
...I wrote him a letter about tolerance and sense of humour.
