Nice one Marks...lol :D
Brubby
(A Scot).
Well according to the BBC it`s only gonna be a max of 17C up here tomorrow so come 4 o`clock i`ll be cheering on the mighty Ecuador & if they fail every other team Ingurland meet until their demise. Don`t recall Engish (media or public) willing Scotland on in 1974 & 78 when England failed to qualify.
To be honest it`s the media & companies like Mars that really get our goat not the good people of England.
Come on Equador.
Ps If you do win it Beckam would be most overated player to lift WC as captain.

No chance on the last one Marks ;)
Gordy
An Ecuadorian Scot

Where were you then. It was all Scotish Hype & rightly so. I wanted them to win, same for Ireland when they qualified. I don`t give two donkey`s sh`its whether you support us of not but I suport all the home countries.
I actually think that the media have been better than expected so far, and they haven`t gone over the top. Unfortunately many companies have taken it on themselves to take up any slack in this area. The fact that Mars think their promotion will sell north of the border shows how much consideration/understanding the have, and they aren`t alone. One of the mobile phone chains has big promotions in the windows of their shop for official England phones, while a sports chain is seriously overstocked with England strips etc.
Of course the other reason Scots have problems supporting England teams is that everyone likes to see an underdog do well, and it`s not too often that England are in the underdog role (and even when everyone else thinks they are, they still *think* they`re the favourites!)

Yes I`m with Paul here.
I certainly recall supporting Scotland very strongly through the 74 and 78 World Cups and being really disapointed when they were eliminated.
I have always supported our UK teams in international events and was most surprised to find that this was not widely reciprocated north of the border.
And there was plenty of coverage in the media back then in the 70s too (in fact it was very heavy coverage considering Scotland is an area of the UK with less than 10% of the total UK population). All the Scottish matches were shown live on prime time TV down in England. I`m sure if Scotland were in the cup this time it would be no different. And I would be willing them on as much as England.
When I was living in Scotland in 2004 you wouldn`t have known the European Championship was going on, or if you did, that a UK team was playing such were the sensitivities of the media for fear of upsetting people about it.

F*** that for a lark! I only want Scotland to qualify so I can watch them get slaughterd. :)
