RE: Sky moves one step closer to being cancelled - Film4 coming to freeview
I used to like filmfour for their balls to show unusual, art house, cult, and world cinema unlike the Sky movie channels, but for the past year they`ve been showing a lot of mainstream films, such as Final Destination, The Nutty Professor, Top Secret, Young Guns II, Kung Pow: Enter the Fist, and Super Troopers..
Granted some of the above mentioned films are good, but the channel was designed to show the underbelly of cinema.
I cancelled my subscription to filmfour last year because of this reason, as I thought it was a damn cheek of FilmFour to charge you for what had already been shown for free on TCM or any of the other terrestrial channels.
Not only that by once you already saw a movie you had to wait till the following month before they put something new on.
So I wouldn`t cancel you sky movies just yet.

RE: Sky moves one step closer to being cancelled - Film4 coming to freeview
Funnily enough, I just had an incredibly annoying phonecall to sky about that exact thing.
I phoned them a week ago, got through to a call center in bangalore who took 10 minutes to take all my name, address and account number and then then proceeded to transfer me BACK to a call center in scotland :/ :/ :/
Anyway, she asked why I was cancelling and I told her that it was because they showed nothing but s*** and not just s***, but the same s*** over and over and over and over again. She responded that Sky arrange their movies by ratings and only stop showing a film if its ratings drop significantly. I asked if there really were enough people in this country who could make showing AvP three times a week justifiable. She then countered with the `100`s of Premiers` argument. I said that thats as maybe, but as soon as its aired once, it dissapears and is replaced by the millionth showing of independance day.
She then started going on about how i could save money by not renting DVDs and just watching Sky Movies, after I told her that I had already seen all the good movies on there anyway. Like you, floyd, I had the movie channels to round up the scraps. To see the films I missed on DVD or Cinema first time round. But recently they show about 4 movies on continual rotation and I realised that I hadnt watch a film for almost a full billing period. I mean, take Collateral for instance. I had meant to see it for ages and was glad when it was on Sky. They showed it for like one weekend then it vanished into the ether.
To give her credit she was tenacious (although she did, literally, refer to `the script` like 4 times), but eventually I said `look, just cancel it please`.
So im just going to spend my tenner a month on a rent by post service. Hopefully they wont send me Resident Evil Apocalypse 5 times a week for 3 months.....

RE: Sky moves one step closer to being cancelled - Film4 coming to freeview
I became a sky subscriber after having to get OFTEL out to get rid of the ludricroulsy shoddy NTL.
I was paying at that time £13.99 a month for my SKY package.
fast forward 2 years and after still having EXACTLY THE SAME PACKAGE
I`m now paying £18.99.....
So I cancel.
Fast forward another year...
And I get a call from a chirpy scottish lady asking why I left SKY.
"My interest in your service was going down and your charges were going up"
After about 10 mins of me saying I wasn`t interested she suddenly said..
"hang on.. I`ll just speak to my manager"
I was on hold for about 2 mins and then she said..
"ok, how about your old package for half price for 6 months... £9 instead of £18?"
"Ok" says I...
Oh how I wish I hadn`t.
After putting a completly different package on my account I had to call and get it changed.. and then, the final kicker....
THEY TOOK £40 out of my bank making me go overdrawn and costing me £40 charges!!
A long call to them ranting and telling them to cancel the account later and stupidly I agree to give them one more chance...
They then try to take £18 from my account............
I cancel the DD and just throw the bills in the bin.. I must have built up a tidy bit of credit with SKY by now....................................
SKY? Buffoons..... Almost as shoddy as NTL.

RE: Sky moves one step closer to being cancelled - Film4 coming to freeview
Filmfour were the root cause of the only billing problem I have ever had with SKY.
Basically, they (she specifically said she was with Filmfour, and not SKY) phoned me one night offering me a free trial.
No mention of any tie-in`s or anything.
Just a no obligation free trial.
So I,obviously, said "yes",but lost interest in watching films I had seen before... :/
Months later,I noticed I was still getting it,so I checked my statements and found they (SKY) had,in fact, started billing me for it.
When I kicked up stink, with SKY,they cancelled it and refunded the 4 or 5 months money.
No problem at all.
So,for their dubious sales tactics alone I would never, ever, choose Filmfour.

Cancelled my subscription to Sky Movies over a year ago
Never looked back !!

I wouldn`t have SKY movies either,but I get 4 of them for nowt. :D
I seem to remember I got the package code from here, years ago ! 8)
If you phoned and quoted the package code, you got Movies 2,4,6,8 free.
I only pay for the sports world package,so I`m definitely getting them for nowt. 8)

I often find that, even though I have over hundred channels catering to my every need, I still never find anything worth watching.
I spend most of the day watching a bit, flick, watch a bit, flick, watch a bit, flick. Music channels are worse; they show the same videos over and over again! On any of the MTV2, VH1 2 programmes they`ve not shown any of the classis 90s bands such as Pavement, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Breeders, even on the music we`ve not played for ages programmes, and even then it`s a bunch of videos they`ve not played for just over a month.
They always play the same tracks from bands of the past, they never venture deep in to their back catalogue and dig something alternative out, I sky+ the late night music videos about once a month, in hopes that they show something different, and Q turns in to FHM where they play wall to wall rap music, because the videos have women flashing their tits and ramming their minge in front of the camera.
And don't get me started on the Sci Fi channel, what the f*** has happened to that now? They used to show all types of old shows as well as new ones, but now it's getting to be like Sky One for showing the same programmes every day, apart from their exclusive showing of… Star Trek: the original series, which was shown on Sky One a couple of years ago, but even there blasting that all day over the weekend and repeating them during the week.
Bravo used to be cool, but now it's turned in to a chav/thug channel, where they show documentaries about drunken arseholes.
The only channel that's starting to show some interesting movies is ITV 2,3 and 4, I've watched some right gems on those channels.

I remember when MTV2 was first on, before it was EMOTV2, when it actually showed a good range of obscure videos, from all the bands you mentioned to squarepusher, Aphex and a load of D n B stuff. The take over tv hour was great. You went on the website, chose a load of videos from a massive playlist and occasionally had them played. Now it just plays wuss rock 24/7.
And I emailed Sci-Fi a few months ago regarding this very thing.
"Firstly, you used to start at 9, which was great at the weekends as you used to open the day with Bubblegum Crisis. Then it went to 11, replacing 2 hours of Anime and Farscape with teleshopping. Secondly, wheres all the anime gone? I appreciate that the demand for it may not be as strong as Emmanuelle 2000, but surely, even if you stuck it on at 3 in the morning, more people would watch it than the days 3rd repeat of `The Pretender`.
Also, bring back MST3K."
They sent back:
"Thanks for your interest in the Sci-Fi channel. We are currently in the process of reviewing our schedules and we believe we have some imminent, exciting changes you will find very interesting".
That was like 6 months ago and they still suck.

I sent an email about MST3K when they dropped it and they sent a right sarcastic one back about me "Overestimating the appeal of the programme"! Surely it`s got more appeal that watching some old bloke demonstrate slicing vegetables on a loop all night?!
