Advice Needed: Renting room out should I accept DSS?
Advertising room for rent and someone just rang up interested. Seemd nice but asked if i accepted DSS and i said NO sorry. Not really knowing what it is ... :/
So can someone tell me what exactly is DSS, should I accept it and if not why?
RE: Advice Needed: Renting room out should I accept DSS?
In my experience, which is that I have lived in flats where my neighbours have been DSS,I think you`ve done the right thing.
They were, without exception, the dregs of humanity and I wanted to throttle the landlords.
They didn`t care though.
From their point of view, their flats were full and the payments were reliable.
Yes,there is a chance this person was nice, but the balance of probability is that they have `issues`,otherwise they wouldn`t be on the DSS,would they....

If your renting a room etc out make sure you have a contract made up by a solicitor. Always get a minimum of one months deposit IN ADVANCE. Don`t let them go over the payment day, not even for a day as it will get longer & longer & the months rent in advance will be swallowed up & they will vanish, perhaps leaving damage. Beware.

Completely agree. It`s a dog eat dog world. I wouldn`t rent anything to someone on the DSS. If they were a half decent person, they would have a job. Never feel pity in these situations.
