Does the £18 limit on importing stuff (without being stung for customs) apply per item or per parcel. Just got done for a parcel containing 3 DVD sets, each only about £13, but got almost £10 customs charge :o :o

It`s per package.
The legalese from the customs postal notice 143:
"Relief from import VAT on commercial consignments, excluding alcohol, tobacco, perfumes and toilet waters, with a value below £18 - The Value Added Tax (Imported Goods) Relief Order 1984:746, Schedule 2, Group 8 item 8 provides relief from import VAT on consignments of goods not exceeding £18 in value."
Cheers,
Guess next time, I`ll have to make separate orders....and watch the P&P !
Its the goods themselves that have to be less than £18.
The shipping costs are not counted on the £18 limit.
I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.
Todays goal is to exceed yesterdays record level of totally unverifable productivity.
I don`t understand why people knock ASBO`s, they are good things as for most of the recipients, these are the only qualifications they will ever have.
