Summer 1999 - the Millennium is coming, Britain is feeling alive, People everywhere walking around wearing bright colours and bright expressions. We`ve got new bridges, a millennium dome and a relatively newish Government leading the way.

Spin foward to now - Fear is keeping us in line, taxes are huge, the infrastructure isn`t working, you can get sick just by going to a hospital, we`re spending billions on an unjustified war, cctv cameras are watching our every move, roaming groups of hoodies are assaulting and stealing all over the place. This country is unhappy, the government is spinning webs of lies, the underbelly of our society is becoming lawless and everything is fine because we live in a superficial age of celebrity and celebrity politicians. Paint an image and hope it sticks.

In the States - they`ve suffered a coup d`etat, conservative right politicians rule with an iron fist, the police are a rogue group who do whatever they want, whenever they want. Lobby groups hold sway, because they have the money.

I thought the 70`s and 80`s were bad, grey times, but it`s much worse. The power has shifted to canny, manipulative people who find new and exciting ways to keep us in line and tax us till will buckle or die.

Our freedom to live, enjoy life and the democratic value have disappeared into pain and suffering on a global scale.

To be vaguely serious, I don`t think we`ve got things too bad. A lot of stories about the terrible decay of our society are pumped up in the meeja. And I think we give way too much credit to the evil-geniusness of the Islamic terrorists in this country - most of them are just chancers with personal problems and small penisesses. Yes the govt. is crap, yes we get taxed a lot, yes we got pushed into a war no-one sensible wanted. On the plus side, global warming is f***ing great.

Having said all that, I`m c***ing off to France hopefully this year to do my own Grand Designs.
