The plan is to use tax payer`s money to build an enormous mosque costing an estimated £100M in the docklands

The plan is for the mosque to be so big so that people flying in from all over the world for the 2012 Olympics will see it as the biggest landmark in London , bigger than St Pauls, Westminster Abbey or Wembley Stadium.

What do you all think?

Where did you read/hear that? Cannot find a mention of it on the BBC website.

To answer the question
Should we have a £100Mil Mega Mosque built?
No, and that is a muslim`s viewpoint.
My reason - when was the last time the government built a church, synod etc? The mosques I goto are funded by the local populace. As are the churches etc. And they should be.

This is a way of sucking upto the muslim populace, especially after the glasgow/london incidents. It should not be allowed.

Treat the muslim population of UK when there is a terrorist incident as you treat the black populace when there is a gang related incident. You do not hear calls for all blacks to denounce gangs as you hear with the muslims and the terrorist incidents.

I`m pretty sure this is an old story, but it certainly won`t be paid for by our taxes. Apparently, the plan was that some Saudi-based variation-on-Islam was willing to pay for it, and plans and everything were drawn up with `artist impressions` passed around the media etc.

Last I read was that if it was finally given the go-ahead (and nothing has been yet) then it would be a vastly scaled-down version anyway.

A gang related incident is not a crime solely perpatrated by "the black populace". Gang crime is as much within white and asian sectors as it is within the black populace and hence there is no way you could ask them to renounce gang crime.

However, at present, all terrorist attrocities and attempted ones have been shown to be commited by asian muslims (in the future I am sure some non asian muslims will join the "cause" and be in the media too) and hence it is reasonable to suggest that the of the muslim community should renounce those carrying out these acts - Especially as it reflects hideously on the vast vast vast majority of you who are fine upstanding citizens

Just as it would not be racist in the current times to target stop and search "profiled asians" it is not racist or unfair to ask the muslim community to voice there distaste and lack of support for the minority opinions that create this issue.

There was a caller on talksport this morning who is an asian truck driver and he said that he has never been stopped at Calais when re-entering the country all he gets is a "good morning sir car on". He stated that as an asian muslim he "looks like a suicide bomber" because he fits the current profiles and that therefore he would rather be stopped EVERY time he comes back into the country because it means him and his family are safer.
That guy, IMO, is spot on and is to be commended for his attitude and approach to the whole thing.

Jermaine Lindsay was Jamaican, the shoe bomber was part Jamaican (I think), one of the fertiliser bombers was from Bosnia or Chechnya, and the 21/7 bombers were African.

I dont remember Terry Wogan denouncing the IRA after every terrorist attack.

The terrorists claim to be muslims - Yes!
Am I my "brother`s" keeper - No!
Muslims have stated that terrorism is wrong - we do not need to announce it every time - and neither should every muslim make the announcement. There was a gathering in Glasgow at the weekend where Muslims protested againts the attacks. Should we do that every time? (but hoping we do not need to do it again)
