Playing Region 1 DVDs on PS2

simon reynolds (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 15th December 2001, 14:41

I have recently bought Region 1 Clerks and when I play it on my PS2 the picture isn`t very good.

Ive heard theres something you can get to stop this. Its either a RGB Scart lead, S-Video lead or something like that.

What do I get to make the picture better and how much will it cost?

the ps2 is a s*** dvd player. The official sony remote will improve things a bit (it comes with an updated driver disc that fixes lip-sync probs etc), but a 99 quid player from asda/richer sounds etc will probably give you a much better quality picture!

Thanks for royally dissing the PS2`s DVD playing capabilities chris but u didn`t answer my question.

I just want to know how to get rid of the green screen. Someone mentioned it before which cable to buy but I can`t remeber. Anyone else know?

for the best quality picture you want a rgb scart cable(plugged into a rgb enabled scart socket), or 2nd best is the s-video cable. if you use the rgb scart cable you need something like the region-x software to get rid of the green screen. if using the s-video lead then you do not. P.S. i have found the ps2`s dvd playback to be as good as most budget dvd players
