Page 1 of Guys - Can you take a look at this car for me on Ebay please

Hi Gents,

Well i`m gonna have to look get a new motor now with another kid on the way so i saw this VW Sharan on ebay. I wont get a chanvce to view it but i dont have to part with any cash if i win it and its not as described.

VW SHARAN

The seller seems to have good feedback - the name changed recently and the previous feeback seems really good. My only concerns are:

1. No service book but he`s got a print out from a main dealer up to approx 54k. Its current mileage is 84k. I`ve only just asked him about the services for the last 30k so i`ll let you know the response.

2. The `air-con does not work it might just require a re-gas`. Again, I`ve asked him what this means exactly - whether its blows air but not cold air or whether the whole unit is buggered.

3. Its had 5 previous owners - genarally speaking i`m no big fan of cars with lots of owners as it may well have been less well taken care of.

I was watching a recent simialr spec sharan and it finished at £4400 so i`m not expecting to pay any more than that - oh yeah it needs road tax but thats it.

I was quoted a new compressor at apporx £450 so havent bothered. Good job too as some of the pipes are now looking like they need replacing.

Or it might have just leaked a little over the years and have a low pressure which means the compressor wont work until it is topped up.

The only other thing that rings alarm bells with me is the statement at the end that these are second hand cars and we dont test things like CD players and cruise control. To me that sounds like a "we buy cars cheap knowing things need fixing, then claim ignorance when you complain they dont work and point you to the small print" type of cop out. But i hate buying cars and think everyone is out to rip you off. But they have mentioned the AC not working so might just be my paranoia.

Just a wee thought .
As the MPV has had 5 previous owners it sounds to me that it may have been a fleet vehicle from a car rental firm. It may have been passed on from one firm to another, or another and another and another in this case :D
Try contacting the seller and ask for details of previous owners. He should be able to provide that from the registration document, well for the previous two owners I think. If he cannot or more importantly will not do so then I would think twice about buying it.

I may be wrong but that could be a reason it has the number of owners it has had.

Be aware that the VW Sharan, Ford Galaxy and Seat Alhambra are all basically the same vehicle and I reckon you`d get better value form an Alhambra, if you`re not a badge junkie.

With 5 owners, I wouldn`t touch it; I reckon it`s possibly clocked down to 84k and expensive stuff is starting to go wrong. Maybe genuine but air con is very pricey.

You know what Mike - thats the advice i wanted to hear to be honest (and yes I am a badge junkie :D)

The 5 owners bit was the bit i was most hesitant about - he`s ommited it from the description and i had to ask him that.....

Yeah i read the honest john website - the only problem is that i cant think of any other alternatives for a goot quality 7 seater around the £5k mark. :/

Any reason it NEEDS to be 7 seats?
Personally I think the Touran is a far better car - check them out. Standard 7 seats now but were 5 or 7 back then.

Yeah three kids, two grandparents - we tend to go out of town alot to Leics, London and Birmingham - all 7 of us....

Typical big Indian Family - the thing is all the kids are little so still need their car seats and hence space.....

I was reading the Zafira reviews. Yes I am a badge junkie and genarally hate vauxhalls after having my first company Astra so i wrote off the Zafira but the reviews are very favourable.....still unsure though....so just reading up on them now on my other tabs!

Tourans seem good too.....looking up on those too....

If I remember correctly, the second row of seats in the Zafira is a bench. So for anyone in the last row to get out, everybody in the second row has to get out too to tip it up. Including baby seat.... Touran has three separate seats that can all independently recline or even go forward and backward. Middle one can fold forward to make a table.
