Renault Scenic Oil Change/Service Question

Mister Smee (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 27th March 2008, 11:25

I own a 53 plate Renault Scenic 1.5dci on which the "Change Oil Soon" message has just started appearing. It isn`t due for a service for another 4k miles and it doesn`t do a lot of miles so that could be a while. Service interval is 18k miles.
Is it better to just get the oil/filter changed or do the service now which should include the oil change?

If you look on the internet, you`ll probably find a way of resetting the warning yourself.
It`s usually just a case of pressing certain buttons in a certain sequence.
I`ve done it several time before, for cars I was selling and didn`t want to service. ;)

In fact, checking the net myself, it says that it`s in your manual.
Done with a button on the end of one of the stalks?
It allows owners to reset the oil change warning themselves, if they do their own servicing.

I guess I need to RTFM...

My missus rang Renault and they say it`s just a pre-service warning to prepare us for the shock of paying Renault half a million pounds for the service and it`s nothing to worry about.

She also asked them about the heater no. 2 setting which was fixed under warranty and has stopped again and they say they *may* fix it again depending on number of miles etc. although warranty repairs run out of warranty as soon as the warranty does if you see what I mean!

Does your local main dealer do fixed price servicing?
Our Renault dealer does (wife has a Clio)
Ask them how much, then phone around.
No real need to go to a main dealer if you don`t want to.
Go to an independent specialist.
I only bother with main dealers when the cars are under warranty.
Once they`re out of warranty, I go to independents.
Note, independent needn`t mean `backstreet`.
I`m not putting motors into Phil Mitchell`s place. ;)

Change oil & filter now as it will always be better for your engine. You could even do it yourself as it is not so difficult.

The local Renault garage said the list price is 373 for a service but they are doing them for 250 cos everyone is biffing off to independents to save money.

As to doing it myself, I can change plugs and leads and distributor caps but that`s as far as it goes!

yes, they have realised... the best one i got was when i took my clio deisel in for its first MOT at three years old, they said `unfortunatley sir, you car has failed due to the deisel injectors, we can have them in by this afternoon and job complete by the morning, its just £800` to which i replied `Go ahead and do the work`, ``excellent they replied`, to which i said ` Good job the MOT isnt due for another two weeks and its still under Warranty`, at which point the service manager quickly looked my vehicle up on his computer and agreed that i was correct, before crying in his cup of tea! 8)

I got free servicing for life on the wife`s diesel Clio.
I wasn`t supposed to, because I negotiated a whack of money off the car instead.
But the free servicing paperwork arrived in the post anyway. :D
I`ve already had one service for nowt, it gets another one on Tuesday.
The bloke who sold me the Clio now works where I bought my Alpina.
So I was having a laugh with him about it.

£373 for a service.....ouch..... :/

Servicing aside, this is why we go for new cars for the wife.
The repayments may be higher, but we get no nasty repair bills.
Anything goes wrong, it`s under warranty.
