Page 1 of Urgent Blockbuster Video Late Fees Advice!!!

My sister has just found 2 DVD`s that her idiot ex hired out using her card and never returned to our local BB store. She thinks they could have been down the side of the DVD player for possibly 5 months as she does not use the player or watch DVDs herself. Naturally she`s s***ting herself about a fine. She used to have a credit card that was attached to the account which was recently cleared off and closed, she has no idea what was on the statements by way of any BB charges if at all.

BB never once called her or wrote to her to remind her or request the dvds return and she has no idea if they made any charges to her then CC and doesn`t have any statements to hand to refer to. She`s not been contacted by a debt collecting agency either which you`d expect.

She`s as poor as f*** and now really worried, how do late fees/charges work please?

As far as I remember at BB you are automatically deleted from being a BB member after 3 months of no hires. Coupling that with the fact she`s heard nothing from anybody in 5 months I think she`ll be okay.

If they ask tell her to say she has lost them and reimburse them the £15 for each DVD!

I think it`s 9 months but if she owes them money that won`t mean they delete her debts otherwise everyone would be opening accounts and cleaning out BB

It`s more a case of whether to take them back or not with any subsequent consequences. She doesn`t need the worry hanging over her head, it wasn`t her fault after all so ideally she wants to return them and see what the score is but she`s dreading the inevitable "You owe us..."

I just wanted to know if there`s a cap to the late fees, do they just charge purchase price to your CC after so many days late, if so then she is the legal owner of the dvds and thats the end of the story as no doubt it was all part of her cleared CC balance.

She`s more s***ting it that they will say she owes 5 months fees at £3 per night for two dvd`s totalling £900 for example

Get someone else to go in a BB and ask - hypothetically like!

why take life so seriously..its not like you are going to make it out alive

Worst case scenario they get their dvd`s back which they will prob sell for £3 and put it down to experience, less there is a jobsworth they might charge a few days late fee`s but doubtful, the dont even seem to know they r missing, is the card in her name? and address? if not she`s fine if so just call, ask for supervisor and be honest.

Just act dumb and if BB ask her where the films are just say that you posted them through the letter box they have on the front of their stores.

Yeah just stick them in the BB letterbox and say no more.

If they are like the halfwits in the blockbuster in Wrexham (who have phoned me up on 2 occassions asking to return dvds that I already have) - just ignore everything, if they contact your sister tell her to say she returned them. I`d guarantee you that nothing more would come of it, they make cock ups all the time.
