I saw this at the flicks and I think it`s f***ing disgusting. They`re saying that those that can`t afford to go to the flicks or buy full-priced DVDs so resort to buying pirates off the bloke on the corner is the type of person that would rob their grans for a fiver. Of course you can`t complain, however, as it`d be admitting you download or buy pirated DVDs.

On a related topic, watching wanted at the flicks last week they had a similar ad featuring Wall-E and eve watching a pirate film, but the quality of the film they were watching looked like it was on a 700-year old VHS tape. Seriously, have the people that make these ads even SEEN a pirate these days? The days of rolling screens and crap sound are long gone. I remember seeing a Screener of I Am Legend a week before it hit the flicks and it was near DVD quality. The only distraction was a screener timecode, but it was easy to blank them out

Industry propaganda is never going to reflect the reality of the situation. There were perfectly good copies of Revenge of the Sith doing the rounds some time before the DVD came out. Most stuff you can download now is ripped from DVDs and arrives so early it has to be coming from inside the industry itself. Even the cam stuff is much better than the dodgy old VHS pirates that were around when I was a kid. I remember seeing totally s***ty copies of Jurassic Park and RoboCop 2 with foreign subs, people`s heads in the frame, dodgy audio, rolling video etc.

The ads are a load of bollocks though. There`s a world of difference between copyright infringement and robbing someone`s `gran`. Insulting to people called Nigel as well.

Lets face it, in reality all those people in the office singing to `Nigel` would all be buying the films from him :D

I remember the only way I could see banned films such as The Exorcist, Clockwork Orange, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was through pirate and like Chris said they were s***e quality unlike the cams today.

FACT knew that the old message of piracy funds terrorism was a load of bollocks, so now they are trying a different tactic buy trying to shame people who are already struggling as it is who have to choose between heating their home, or eating, as well as paying extortionate taxes.

It`s a shame that someone doesn`t respond on youtube saying buying music cds, and films funds the artist`s drugs and binge alcohol habit.

Those adverts are just as bad as David Cameron`s `you only have yourself to blame` speech he made recently.

As I said on the Amy Winehouse thread, if she can afford that amount of drugs after only 2 albums then there is still a ridiculous amount of profit being made......even with the pirate/downloads. Simon Cowell seems to have done alright out of his recording artists too.

25 odd years ago every vinyl album I bought had a `Home Taping is killing Music` message printed on the inner sleeve......seems to be doing just fine to me.

We`re supposed to buy product at rip-off Britain prices and they have a go when someone dissents. Yeah, we all know piracy is wrong and funds seal culls in Canada, but when you hear of the the industry giants cracking down on retailers for sourcing their discs outside the EU, having a go at supermarkets for selling CDs as loss-leaders, then I really believe that it`s time for the big money grubbing bastards like the BPI and the RIAA and MPAA to just f*** off and die.

I will not pay for a full priced DVD when it comes out in the shops (roughly £14), I wait for 3 months (under £10) or 6 months (under £7), and the shops re still making a profit.
