It starts next week (2 September).

James Hibberd of The Hollywood Reporter appears to have scooped all media with a spoiler-free first review of the first eight episodes of "The Shield's" final season (which will boast 13 episodes in all).

Since we`re here, I`ll offer a few of my own spoiler-free observations:

1) 7.7 and 7.8 are likely the two most gripping and involving episodes of the series I've seen to date.

2) We see a lot happen this season I think many viewers have been waiting to see since season one.

3) Viewers should avoid starting a drinking game tied to the phrase "blackmail box." Or even "black mailbox." You and your friends will die.

4) From the minute a blonde fed named Olivia is introduced in a purely professional setting, I became convinced she would find her way to Victor Mackey's (clap-riddled?) boning mechanism. (I am prohibited from revealing whether or not she gets there in the first eight.)

5) Mackey frenemy Shane Vendrell's IQ seems to fluctuate wildly as best benefits whatever plotline is at hand.

6) As Hibberd points out, Mackey's fellow detective Dutch is a terrifically compelling character, but often seems like he's starring in another show set in the "Shield" universe. Not that anyone should mind.

Much as he did last season, AICN's own "Capone" intends to review each of the episodes individually as they hurtle toward the series' Sept. 2 premiere. Stay tuned.

Cheers for the heads up, who knows if/when five will show it, and if they do you can`t be sure they`ll stick to a regular slot for it :/

Shame really cos it was probably could have been their first hot show, and reason for ppl to look at five seriously, guess they learned form their mistake and made CSI their big show.

Just watched season2 and sold dvd on ebay to fund season 3.

May have to wait till after Prison Break, Desp Housewives have finished though.

watched the 1st 2, excellent stuff,

I always thought CCH Pounder as Claudette was good, but in episode 2 she was excellent.

Further to the comments in the US thread and from the reviews of the first 8episodes I had seen on AICN months ago (they said then episode 8 was brilliant) I`ve done a catch up tonight.

Internet working at my mums so watched a combination of streams and Youtube versions (surprisingly alright) to watch the last 10 of episode 5 through to 8.

13 episodes, the last one being shown the night of November 25th :D

Yeah 5 to go, assuming the finale will be extended episode aswell.

Michael Chiklis directed the finale also, as it was filmed during the writers strike so Shawn Ryan couldn`t do it.
