first stop for flights would be www.expedia.com.au
apparently the exchange rate works out in our favour when purchasing in Australian dollars (which i would check at www.xe.com)
um....re thailand never been there but as an alternative if that doesnt work out - i hear Goa is very good at this time of year :)
Thailand is a beautiful country and Bangkok is an ace city! Complete culture shock mind you when you step off the plane! January is a perfect time to go as it`s out of rainy season and I reckon you should get a flight for about £500.
At Bangkok airport don`t just jump into any old taxi as they will possibly try to screw you! Get into a cab from a tax rank in arrivals, or always agree price first.
Places to see, that I can remember: Grand Palace, Patpong, Khao San Road, there`s a huge mall but I can`t rmember the name...

surely that`s the main reason for going to Thailand? (but check for Adam`s apple first)

Right off on friday so anyone with any last minute hints and tips (or warnings) feel free to post, having looked online i noticed the cheap airlines in thailand really are cheap so may fly to Singapore or Vietnam for a few days while i am there
Cheers
You could jump on a plane to Cambodia and visit Angkor:
