bugger - voluntary redundancies
it had to happen.
we`ve just all been given forms to complete. in an attempt to stay
afloat, we`ve been offered voluntary redundancy.
mine`s a no-no as i`ve only been here for 5 years and am not 40 yet
so i`d get kcuf lla.

Hopefully there`ll be enough that take the offer, leaving your job secure. Fingers crossed for ya bud! Are many likely to take the offer?

not sure.
there are 3 guys in the warehouse who are over 60, one has been here
longer than anyone can remember, the other two have been here 10 years
and 3 years respectively. the guy who`s been here for 10 years would i`m sure
stay out of spite.
problem is the majority of us are between 30 and 50, still have mortgages and
have been here less than 5 years so any payout would be minimal.
this is the second time i`ve experienced the spectre of redundancy, the first was
when i was 19, but tbh, i didn`t give a f*** back then as i had no responsibilites.
now i`m 38 it`s totally different. :(

Hey up, Ste.
I`ll keep my fingers crossed for you, mate. These are worrying times, and it`s becoming too frequent.
Keep your chin up, mate...and I hope you`re safe!

I feel for both You and Ogs.
All I can say is I hope it works out for you and if you do need to take or be made to take a redundancy that another good job will come along for you.
Sad state of affairs that there are so many companys going into administration/receivership or needing to cut staff now :(

update.
not suprisingly, no-one has come forward for voluntary redundancy
so certain "offers" have been put on the table:-
1. each department has a "pool" of employees. each employee will be assessed for
their skills, what they know and what they contribute to the department. the one with the
lowest assessment score will be made redundant.
2. to avoid redundancy, we take a 4 day week whereby each member of the department
has to lose a day a week, whether that be tuesday, wednesday, thursday or friday.
monday isn`t included due to the number of bank holiday days it occupies.
needless to say, our department have opted for 4 days, due to the fact that we`re all
good mates and that there are absolutely no quality related jobs out there.
what has really p***ed me (and others) off is the fact that managers and the office
staff are immune to this situation. they are having a 5% decrease in wages effective
from may 1st.... we will have to bear the brunt of a 20% reduction. this coupled with
the fact that the average office salary is more than the warehouse / quality salary
has made this decision really hard to swallow. i have proposed that a 10 or 12%
reduction in wages be introduced across the board to make things fair...
i doubt that it will be considered though >:(

That`s a s***ter Ste.
I`d agree that a 5% decrease for management and office staff is a little insulting given what they`re imposing on you.
Whatever the outcome, wish you all the best with it.
