Page 1 of my bright headlights

i have a proton savvy and have noticed that my headlights reflect badly in alot of peoples mirrors (although not all),they then think that i have my main beams on and i start gettin annoyed looks. this has really started to affect my driving as im hating going out when i need my lights on and have started to drive slower to stay away from car infront but this does not always work. i dont have my main beams on so i dont understand why they are so bright?as far as im aware my bulbs are the usual brightness and i have not asked for a perticuler valtage so i assume i have the standard.i have noticed alot of cars have bright lights but feel like it is only me gettin the angry looks etc.any advice on what i can do to make them less bright or somethin?i know this sounds like a stupid question but im findin it embarrassing incase someone has a go

i have tried to adjust them and to be honest it looks as if they dont even move. i got my partner to move them last night while i stood and looked at them and he moved it all the way and they didnt seem to move

Is it a newish car? I know a lot of newer cars have bi-xenon/HID (high-intensity discharge) headlights and Ive found them to be very bright on some cars

The lights should probably be electrically adjustable (although on a Proton..??...) but that should still be only within the `normal` range for if you`re towing etc. They will definitely be adjustable by screws on the headlamp units. Park up to a garage door or something with your headlights on and see where they shine. Then adjust down a bit... ;)

Ditto. most headlights on modern cars are electronically self-adjusting, levelling the beams in the case of a heavy loadin the back. This should also be couple with a manual control tumbler switch or dial, allowing you to adjust the height of the beam. As Ste suggests, drive up to a wall (or, ideally, a parked car) and you should be able to judge how low your headlights should be comfortable for the other road users.

Incidentally, well done for making the effort to rectify what you`ve identified as a potential problem for other road users. I`ve lost count of the number of times I`ve been blinded by some xenon headlights coming up behind me on a country road...

Your headlights need to be specially set up for beam height and angle, any MOT test station can do this for you, infact it is an MOT failure for incorrectly adjusted headlights.

Unfortunatly it`s not something you can do yourself apart from the minor changes using the level adjuster as you need special equipment to do it.

I think the clue was in `proton savvy` ;)

PS, as well as checking the alignment of the headlights is correct, check your tyre pressures.
If they`re too low at the back, the car will be dragging its arse like a dog with an itchy ring.

Could also be a sign that your car needs treating for thread worms :D
