Sky + HD recording unviewable after cancellation - fair??

rehan (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 8th August 2009, 19:35

Need to save some money and one way was to reduce my sky movies hd package. I was halfway through the process when I asked will I still be able to watch the four Indy films I recorded. (don`t know why I asked!)
No. :o

If you record anything and then drop that channel you are unable to view those recordings.

Is that right??

Is that fair?

BTw Due to long time being with them they offerred my 20% of my package saving me £7 a month.

I found this out some time ago with basic Sky+. Had a bunch of films on hard drive which became instantly unviewable as soon as the phonecall was made. They must have a "fukk you" switch...

If you hire a DVD from blockbuster, but cancel your membership before you get to watch it. Do you think you should be able to hang on to the DVD untill you are ready to watch it? That is putting it very simplisticly. With Sky you hire the film. Not buy it.

but surely you recored the film onto the box while you were a subscriber, so you HAVE paid for it regardless of the fact youve binned the package, its no different from downloading music before cancelling your broadband, does your ISP come round to your house and wipe your hard drive of all the stuff you downloaded?

sounds like a huge bunch of sour grapes at Sky

Can`t belive I am defending Sky.

With your music that you have downloaded. I guess you have paid to "own" that piece of music. It is yours to keep. With Sky you are paying for the right to watch a film that is owned by someone else. You have not bought the film. Sky are just a hire shop with no physical product. LoveFilm will want their film back if you cancel. Blockbuster, the same.

If Sky had "sold" you the film at £8 per film, then it would be yours to keep and they could not take it from you.

Ummm, is this a new thing?

My flatmate had a Sky 160 box that he`d recorded loads of stuff on that we were always able to watch, even when we got Sky 2years later and plugged that box in????

Plus Sky have just given me 1months free movies now we`ve got HD and I was planning on recording a few things, so not an option nowadays.

20 years ago, if you stopped paying you licence fee, Hale and Pace would come round, dressed as da management, break your kneecaps, and then go through your home recorded videotapes and burn anything you taped off TV.

Wait...

No they didn`t!
