PANASONIC DVD Video Recorder DMR-
The PANASONIC DVD Video Recorder DMR-E85H
Can anyone familiar with this machine give any advice to this not verytechnical punter who bought this recorder after reading a great review (among others) in the Sep. 2004 issue of What Hi-Fi; so I guess it is about four and a half years old.
The mahine has given me great service in many ways e.g. recording off-air on hard drive or disc, transferring old VHS holiday tapes etc but lately it has been losing power when you switch off after use (no display) but sometimes after an increasingly long time off - many hours or overnight- it will come to life allowing you to use the normal functions until you try switching off again (leaving it on it will go to `sleep` but you can`t always start things up again from that point).
I`ve tried all the usual things leads, plugs, etc to no avail. I`m very fond of this recorder partly because I am familiar with its operations. By my simple reckoning it seems to be losing or has lost power. Any suggestions?

Could be a switch could be the psu or a dry solder joint.
The only way to find out is to get it tested.

I know what this is but need to dash out to an open evening at college.
Will come back with the gen for you.
Or look at my earlier posts because this arose for someone else in the last few weeks.

Have a look at this. I repaired mine following this advice. There is a bit of soldering involved but the part needed is q cheap at about £5 plus postage. Or get a local tv repair guy to do it for you once you have taken the power board out.

Stu and Mike, thank you for your response.
Mike that site took me on to some great info and Leslie Rushforth`s instructions will be a great help when I get a more savvy friend to do the necessary when I buy the part.
On reading all the posts I guess I was lucky in that so many others got much less use from their recorders than I did. Panasonic don`t come out of things too well with regards to this machine which had great reviews but it would seem had a design fault.
So glad I posted here.
RE: PANASONIC DVD Video Recorder DMR-
My DMR-E85 is still going strong.
Only gets light use these days, it`ll be getting consigned to the loft soon though.
It`s only used as a DVD player in the eldest daughter`s bedroom these days, but is too bulky for such a basic function.
She`s getting a much smaller upscaling DVD player instead.
Make me an offer for the DMR-E85 if you like, Sliceshot..... ;)
