Page 1 of Don`t worry, Bee happy (or not...)

Actually, quite unhappy (and bricking it a bit).

I`ve got a big suspicion* that a colony of bees may have made themselves at home in my loft space. Local council website (www.fareham.gov.uk) doesn`t look helpful, just wondered if any of you guys had any advice. I loathe to pay a bee keeper to come get them...

*I say suspicion... have seen them from the outside going in and out of a vent, only at the rate of 4 or 5 a minute. I`m far too much of a girl to get up in the loft and have a proper look.

Hmmm, I`d have said if you`ve seen that many coming/going in a short space of time that there`s definitely some kind of nest in there.

Are they definitely bees?
If it was wasps then I`d get some of that foam/spray to kill them, but I have a fondness for bees (given what they do for nature!).

We had a wasp nest in the loft last year, took me a little bit of courage to get up there and check, but when I did I couldn`t actually see anything anyway. I ended up just filling the hole they were using with the foam that kills them (did it twice) and it seemed to sort it.

Definitely bees. The hole they`re going in/out is right outside my little lads window, so viewing quite safely from there!

I dont think you will have to pay a bee keeper to come get them due to a shortage of bee`s.

To put your mind at rest, bee`s are less likely to attack rather then wasps unless that is they arent zombie bee`s then its a case of chuck the kids at the swarm and run away screaming whilst waving your hands above your head :D

i agree with miles and stu.

bees are great n` fluffy and make honey. let `em live.

wasps are malicious little bastards who would rather sting you
than look at you. little ****s.

What type of Bees are they if they are the huge Bumblebees then just leave them there, they are not aggresive and only have colonies of a few hundred. Plus in the Winter they will leave the hive and not come back effectivelly killing it as a nest, they are also very good for your garden. There is a real shortage of bees so if you can leave them then do.

If it is honey bees then you will have colonies of up to 20,000 and a bee keeper will take it away for free.
