Comics Blast Cheggers For Plagiarism

Keith Chegwin has upset comics including Simon Evans and Ed Byrne by "stealing" their material.  Cheggers is unrepentant.

I can`t help thinking these modern comics wouldn`t last five seconds in the old days of the Comedians - people like Ken Dodd, Frank Carson, Bob Monkhouse, Bernard Manning and the like - when jokes were almost community property and the skill was in telling the joke.**

I can see their point, however, if somebody like Cheggers nicks half your act you might have to think of something new.

I`d hate to see intellectual property lawyers getting into stand-up comedy - I can imagine comics having to go out on stage with one of those LED displays around their neck which would show authorship and copyright information with each punchline.

**As a personal favour, can I beg that this thread doesn`t turn into a d*ck measuring contest between modern comics like Ed Byrne and the old stagers.

Favourite story about "The Comedians" following on from this (no segue).

Bernard Manning was the only one who didn`t use "idiot boards".

To save a bit of time, Mike Reid`s boards were put out before Bernard took the stage, as Mike was on after him.

Bernard goes on, clock this, and does ALL Mike`s material....

Mike comes on and can`t figure why his "triffic" material bombs....

I think they over-reacted. A cynic would say that it smacks of the young bucks attacking the `cheesey` old guard.

normal people would not be expected to credit something in that way, and the "cant believe its not better" one is so obvious that my dog could have come up with it.

I dont suppose many people turn to cheggars twittr for the up to the minute comedy, and nor do i think they go around saying "did you read what cheggars said? thats going to go down in the annals of history of something that he said."

if you ask me the other comics can **** off.
so can cheggars

Heh, good clip that. I`m going to have to use that next time I`m down the pub with me mates.

The Aristocrats... that`s a joke I`ve heard about but not sure I know. I guess after an hour or so of hearing a load of different comedians telling it, I`d probably never forget it!

Why should you never give Keith Chewing beer?

Because Cheggers can`t be boozers.
