SKY HD cost??? Question for subscribers

1mills (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 6th January 2011, 17:56

I can`t find the thread on which this was discussed before (some time in past 6months).

Someone had mentioned about the Sky HD fee being cancelled if you had the full package including Sports and Movies from October onwards.

Now the missus has just got her parents to get Sky HD installed as upgrade with Sky Multiroom  (definately don`t have the full package), but she has said they are only paying £10 for multiroom and that`s it extra on a monthly basis and is convinced they are having the HD pack aswell.

Is everyone else still paying for multi room, plus Sky HD?

I`m assuming you do still pay for both and either missus is wrong or it`s part of deal with upgrade, but want to check as we cancelled multiroom a year ago, but if you don`t have to pay for HD pack when you`ve got multiroom, then I may aswell get multiroom back on!

Cheers

I have the full package still but also pay £10.50 a month extra for HD...I don`t have multiroom so don`t know if they don`t charge because of that...don`t know if that is any help actually.

I`m hoping the charge disappears soon like Sky+ did a while ago.

The missus has investigated today.

They don`t have the HD package, just having a HD box installed, which is what I`d said to do originally, plus been questioning yesterday on being given the information they were getting the HD channels, but only paying £10 extra for that and the multi room.

Sky charging for HD is taking a profitering liberty.

The origional idea of HD by the goverment was that it would eventually take over from normal television, but it will never happen till sky remove this charge. As many people like mayself refuse to pay extra for what should just be the next technological move.

Sky is far too expensive as it is with normal channels (not including films or sport) being £288 a year :/ (£24/month)

I also refused Sky+ until these charges were dropped, and then got a Sky+ box on their £50 offer. I hope HD goes the same way and drop charges.

Currently Sky are doing a free Sky+ box with self install for £15 if you add either the HD pack or a Multiroom.
Both are about £10 each plus the new VAT rate

Now, where it all gets confusing is that Sky+ SD doesn`t really exist anymore so all boxes being delivered are Sky+HD boxes.
Same services but without the HD sub means you STILL get all the HD channels that are free but you don`t get the subscription HD channels.
In my case and package, only Sky 1 HD and this new Atlantic HD one are really of interest (been Sky+#ing some of the other stuff but really just to have a play... that`ll stop after about a week)

So in your In-Laws situation they should still get the FTA HD channels but things like DiscoveryHD, Sky1HD etc will display the "ring to get this channel" message.

Oh yeah, I forgot...you can also pay an extra £250 for a Terrabyte HD box...looks nicer, adds Tb storage but according to the lad on the phone does exactly the same as the normal HD boxes.

Here`s how my £72.50 a month is calculated.

Sky+ Subscription £0.00
Sky+HD Pack £10.25
Sky World £52.00
Extra Subscription £10.25
Sky+ Subscription £0.00
Subtotal:£72.50

Yes, before anyone starts, I`d love to pay less, I`m not daft.
But I flipping love SKY, so there.

We`ve got sky world so we pay £51 for all channels and £10 for multiroom (pre vat increase prices) but were told they would charge £10 a month for Sky HD.

We had to pay £30 for the installtion, which included a Sky + HD box in the front room, and according to the guy I signed up with, the same in the bedroom...when the guy installed, he put standard definition normal sky box in the bedroom. We phoned to complain and were told that because we signed up with a bloke in town, even though he works for sky and it is scrawled on the paperwork, that because it wasn`t ordered over the phone and therefore wasn`t recorded they couldn`t honour it. Then, the day after he installed it (breaking my skirting board, leaving a three inch hole in my wall and nicking a bunch of cables out of the bedroom), the HD box went down...and stayed down for three days until they could organise another engineer to come out and fix the mess he made and replace the box...no compensation for the cables which vanished when he was here.

I think Sky are overpriced, especially as I actually want like one channel out of each pack, and HD should definitly be free if you`re a subscriber, but I enjoy the channels I have, so stuck with it!

A mate called SKY on Friday, to ditch HD.
He was told "Ooh, you qualify for a discount" and given it for next to sod all for a few months.
I really wish SKY would stop doing this, it`s kicking people like me in the nuts.
