Jail time `linked to reoffending`
The longer the prison sentence the less likely an offender is to commit a further crime, according to a report from the Ministry of Justice.Thought this was interesting. It clearly shows that for some crimes short sentences are not the answer.
I wonder how much is related to the level of rehabilitation prisoners get depending on their time inside.

Or it could be that by the time they get out, they are so old and geriatric, that a)they simply can`t commit an offence without forgetting what they had started in the first place, and b) the chances are that they`ll die of old age before they can commit the reoffence anyway.

Saw some figures yesterday that showed that people given a mandatory life sentence and released in 2010 had served on average 16 years. This was compared to an average of 9 years in the late 70`s.

Either that, or the time inside was not punishment enough (easy, relaxing, access to fellow hoodlums etc...) and not a deterrent to offending.
