Page 1 of Stephen King`s The Dark Tower

Assume quite a few people have read this series as remember it being mentioned a few times, so finally got around to reading The Gunslinger (which I have owned for about 20months!) and flown through it the past few nights.
Just finished it before and I don`t really know what to make of it. As a stand alone book I didn`t "love it", but quick google has suggested that really this book should just be treated as a prologue for the other books.
Just wondering if others would agree that it`s one thaf increases significantly as the series progresses.
Havent ordered the second part, but will probably do tomorrow. I`ve got the second parg of The Strain trilogy to read next though, didn`t realise it had even been released yet and then see on Amazon it`s been out for a bloody year. Doh! At least the final part is due out soon so I can read nearly straight through.

Oh. "The Dark Tower" used to be the nickname of the executive office block at Universal City back in the day.

RE: Stephen King`s The Dark Tower
Yes, is the simple answer. The Gunslinger is a short and sweet book that introduces three characters from memory and really doesn`t work as a stand alone. I have to admit not being entirely satisfied with the first one but the rest are absolutely fantastic. Don`t pass up the opportunity to complete this, it is a really satisfying read all the way to the end, which is....well, wouldn`t want to spoil it for you...

After that last recommendation I may have to try again.
I tried The Gunslinger several years ago and found it deeply unsatisfying, failed to get me to give a toss about anyone in it.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

Ah..yes.. the ending. Glad someone else agrees.
Well worth reading the series. Get the illustrated versions if you can as some of the artwork is brilliant.
I`ve order the second and third books and were dispatched by Amazon today, so will see how quickly I plough through them.

Never really got into the books tried the first one but, unusually for me, I never finished it.
Trailer looks good though. Young Idris seems to be doing well for himself lately.
Edit: Just read back and I seem to be repeating myself.
