Didn`t an enemy of James Bond try that?

Yes, FFS she didn`t realise the cooker was on.
But then again, would she have had the fuel in her home if a certain idiot hadn`t told her to go and do it in the first place?

"A woman has suffered serious burns to her whole body after fumes from petrol she was transferring between containers in her kitchen was ignited by the cooker."

Nice grammar, Guardian.

I don`t think said idiot suggested storing fuel in the kitchen or decanting it whilst cooking the chips for dinner.
Although I don`t dispute the tag `idiot` alongside practically any govt pronouncement concerning the non existant fuel crisis.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

Reminds me of when I was doing work for an insurance company. A chap had been cleaning adhesive off his kitchen floor with petrol. He had forgot about the pilot light on the boiler. He was by the open back door when it went up and got blown in to his garden. He was lucky to get away with slight burns to his face.

Dunno if it was being stored in the kitchen though Snaps, just being transferred into a container for her daughter or whatever.
He didn`t say store or decant it in the kitchen, he said keep a jerry can in the garage with petrol (which in itself is illegal as you can only legally store 10 litres of petrol at home and IIRC 20 litres of Diesel in the correct containers.)

She`s an idiot but I`m sure she`s gonna feel like that for a long time and I hope she recovers ok.
He`s an idiot and should lose his job instantly.

The Doc`s example shows just how easy it is for any of us to end up in a similar situation without even realising it, the guy might have been using Nitromors or similar instead of petrol and still had the same result... If I`m honest I would probably have forgotten about the pilot in the boiler too but won`t now the Doc has posted that!

The smartest person in the world can do something incredibly dumb.  It`s all part of the human condition.  Haven`t any of us had at least one near-Darwin experience in their life?  That poor woman has suffered forty percent burns.  She`ll need skin grafts and probably spend a lifetime on painkillers as a result.  She is lucky to have survived at all.

It isn`t clear yet whether she was decanting the petrol to a jug in the kitchen because of Francis Maude/ David Cameron`s ill-advised suggestions earlier in the week, but it seems awfully coincidental.  Apportioning blame seems fairly pointless as Tory supporters will blame the tanker drivers and their union for threatening strike action.  Sane people ( ;) ) will blame Call Me Dave and the Man Whose Name Will Be Forever Maude for advising people to fill their garages and houses with containers of highly flammable fuel.  Bottom line is it`s a tragic but avoidable accident.

BTW - re: that joke about not being able to fill the bath with petrol because it`s full of stamps and pasties - I`d bet that out there there`s some tool who`s actually considered filling the bath up with unleaded.

No it isn`t as jerry cans come in both 10 and 20 litre sizes.  The military standard one is 20 litres and whilst I may be open to accusations of bias in defending Maude, storing petrol in the garage hasn`t led to a spate of similar incidents for those with petrol lawnmowers and strimmers.
