Computer problem - Internet Browsing
I have sent this question to computer forums with not much luck, so I thought I`d give you guys a chance!
I have a Celeron 500 PC with 256 Ram, running Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6.
My ISP is Freeserve Anytime. When I am browsing and I select a web page, the page loads up without any problems, and the status bar fills up.....then the pointer changes from a hand to an arrow, and I cannot slect anything. I can stil scroll up and down, but not select anything.
This lasts for about 15 - 20 seconds on every web page I open.
I have tried changing my internet option setting, but nothing seems to stop it from doing it.
I have AVG anti-virus software, and I don`t know if this affecting it.
It seems that once the information is loaded on the page, the browser, or something else is checking the page before allowing me to proceed and select anything else........and it`s bloody annoying!
Anyone got any ideas????
Cheers for any help given!
MJ
RE: Computer problem - Internet Browsing
Try reinstall IE6, or go back to 5.5. Which is what I use and reluctant to upgrade due to it`s buggy reputation.
RE: Computer problem - Internet Browsing
You might have problems going back. I found that after upgrading to IE 6 I couldnt download anything that took longer than a couple of minutes. It just kept stopping downloading anything at all and the only solution was a rebuild as rolling back to IE 5.5 didnt make any difference.
You could try Netscape 6.2. I use it and find it more stable than IE ever was.
RE: Computer problem - Internet Browsing
I take it you`ve restored all the Internet Options back to defaults just to see if there was anything stopping you? Have you got the latest IE6 update?
I use IE6/Win2000 without any problems at all, and I use Freeserve Anytime too.

Thanks for the replies.
I have downloaded and installed Netscape 6.2....tried it and the problem has gone.....so it`s obviously something in the IE 6 settings.
I`ve treid changing the settings back and forward, and disabling my Anti-Virus software, but none of this helped.
I`ll give Netscape a go for the time being, and see how I get on with it!
Cheers
