Problem Neighbours! Totally Off topic!

I am honestly at my wits end. 5 Months ago I moved into what looked like a nice housing estate, The flats looked nice, Expensive cars, nice gardens etc... 2 weeks ago I suspected my neighbours living above me were using drugs (Injecting) Needles found! To make the situation worst, I was down my local Snax24 last Sunday and walked into my druggie neighbour ripping off the place, Later I found out that he had pinched £250. Night before last the flat next door to me was done over and had a few quids worth of gear pinched. Anyway I contacted my local housing officer and told them the story and asked if there was any possibiliy that I could be transfered. Despite whats been going on I was told that I would have to be a tenent for 2 years before thay would consider it, Thay did however give me 2 choices:- For me to give the Housing Officer consent approch these tithead and caution them on my behalf, Or live with it for 2 years until my right to transfer becomes available! Now I aint going to give them consent to approch these people for fear of MY flat getting ripped off and I really can tolerate another years and 7 months here.

My Question is does anyone think I have a good enough legal case to force my Housing Officer to approve a transfer on the basis that these people are really bad apples?

Mm sounds about right. They always move scum into nice areas so it wrecks the lives of decent people.

I think that you could get moved, or have them moved. Have a talk with your housing officer. Try and appeal to his better nature. You don`t have to get angry, just try and explain that quality of life is crap because of the scum above. Also explain to him that needles are against Health and Safety, and if you do not get moved you maybe forced to call in the Health and Safety executive to inform them that your Landlord is not keeping the property in line with requirements for rented places.

I know that you don`t want the scum to know that you have informed on them, and your housing officer should be sympathetic to your wishes about that.

Why not buy your own place then you can choose what "scum" you live next to.

What about getting them moved instead, if they`re behaving like that - surely that breaks the terms of their tenancy?

Dob them into the rozzers.

Failing that, get some mates round, do these nasty neighbours over then wiegh their parts down in deep water with nets & concrete blocks.

"What neighbours?"

:D

Thay are known to to Old Bill for numerous house burglaries I am told! Richard made an Interesting point, But it seems that the housing association has turned a blind eye to the situation, A typical case of the same old story, Thay are quite happy taking the housing benefits £££ and would rather sweep the complains under the carpet that to evict these druggies and loose the £46 per week thay get in benefits to house these wasters. The thing is where do you go from there, The only conclusion is to move out, But anyone who`s tryed getting housing from the local council will know that it can take some time to get re-housed...!

Mmmmmm, Concrete blocks and Deep water.... Now there`s a thought :-/

I`m sure if you report something that breaks the tenancy agreement such as this to your landlord and he does nothing about it, you can then complain to some organisation that can do something to him?

I agree that directly causing problems for your neighbours may put you at risk, so maybe by causing problems for your housing officer you may indirectly get what you want.

If you cause him more hassle than it would be to get rid of these tenants, whether by complaining to various offices at your local council, maybe the CAB can help you find out who to talk to, then he will pretty soon sort things out I`d say.

Your council should be able to issue an anti-social order (sic - I forget the proper title) to these troublesome idiots.

If they are council tenants (I assume so) they are obliged to conduct their tenancy in a way that does not affect the quality of life of those living around them.

Have you considered contacting other neighbours (the nice ones) around you - you`ll probably find they`re of a like mind, and don`t want to stir up any trouble. If enough of you complain then surely the council will have to listen.

Nottingham City Council operate a zero tolerance policy towards council tenants acting in this way and will not hesitate to chuck `em out - hopefully your local authority is the same.

Similarly, it`s worth having a quiet word in the community police officer`s shell-like : if you`re not sure who that is ring your local nick (not 999, just the local number in the phone book). If you want to go the whole anonymous route just ring Crimestoppers - seems to me that they`d listen as this lot seem like they`re a one-family crimewave.

I totally sympathise with your predicament - let us know how you get on.

Thanks to everyone for posting a comment!

The Latest:-

The girl who had her flat done over came and had a chat with me today nothing to interesting, BUT she told me that the Housing Association HAS been aware of the problems these people pose for the last 16 months and to date havent done NOTHING about it, As a result this poor lass who got robbed has handed her 4 weeks notice in and all because it seems that druggies get a better deal and MORE le-way that honest people do.

A question, Why should these people be allowed to drive good honest people out of there home as a result of there Drug dealing, Anti social, Stealing Moronic ways!

Anyhow, Im off to see my local Council housing officer to see if there is any chance of a move ASAP, And maybe to my solicitor to see if <DELETE IF FORUM RULES ARE BROKEN> "Clwyd Alun Housing Association" Are Responsible for this inability to move these bad apples OUT!

Cheers Clayts, Ill let you know how things go!

Hmm... see if you can get some free legal advice. You may be able to take the local council to court for dereliction of duty. I can assure you that this way is a lot safer than trying to get the scumbags nicked.

It wont take long for your local authority to run scared and move you someone else.

Local newspapers are good for this too. Does the western mail cover your area?
