So what happened?

sj (Elite) posted this on Friday, 30th August 2013, 22:53

Seems to have been site problems today/tonight. Site kind of appeared but with chunks missing.
I was trying to massively thank pat for a thread/post that I`ve hopefully taken advantage of (Asus Transformer deal) but that thread no longer appears to be here. It was within a few minutes of his thread that the site appeared to go weird.
So, was stuff lost? What happened?
And, many thanks pat - awesome deal hopefully!! :)

It was that thread that was causing it, I have no idea why. I had to delete it to fix it. :/ Sorry Pat!

It only happened on DVD Reviewer, MyReviewer was just fine and dandy. Must be yet another strange oddity with the ageing decrepit codebase, I blame Windows.

I read pat`s thread and was coming back to thank him for it but the site was weird. I actually tried myreviewer site but when I hit the sign in button nothing happened. The thread appeared fine there as you say.
Anyway, thanks pat, keep it up!

Any chance of letting us in on the deal, or is it too late...?

Cheers

I emailed a screenshot of the problem to Rob but it turns out my email was returned undelivered.

Also I tried to use MyReviewer (the mobile page) on my phone. Gave up because I had two problems - a) I couldn`t log in, although I should have been logged in anyway, and b) I couldn`t view page 2 or 3 of a thread, only page 1.

I think the Syrians hacked the forum.

SJ glad you saw the thread, I ordered one too, picking mine up from my local Asda at 5pm today. For anyone wondering what it was about, Asda were selling a Asus Transformer TF300T android 10" tablet with the keyboard dock/battery for £225. The same one is on Amazon for £465. I meant to post it in the bargain forum but put it in the wrong forum.
It's the thrid generation transformer tablet so hopfully they have ironed out the problems found with the first model (which I'm still using). It's been updated to the latest android, Jellybean.
I did wonder what happened to the thread, as it was my 4000th post. I got an automated email saying it was deleated but not why.
I noticed that a thread posted by Smurfette about her Nexus 7 battery being dead was reporting the wrong last poster, don't know if that's part of the same issue.

I don't know what's going on tbh. :/ It's what happens when you keep an old codebase alive about 3 years longer than you should have.

Ah well, the Windows box gets turned off on the 6th, so I'm all prepared for the inevitable backlash when everyone gets redirected to MyReviewer and nothing works how they expect, or isn't working because I've not got around to implementing it yet. :/

I'm expecting there to be just me here in a fortnight, posting YouTube videos to amuse myself! With everyone else gone off to Facebook because they don't like the new curtains. :)

Still, there we go, I can't afford £200 a month just to keep DVD Reviewer alive when the very same forums with the very same people are still accessible in a slightly different way. But if the curtains are more important than the people to some, not much I can do. :/

If it's any consolation RJS, the blue grows on you after a while :)  New curtains always good now and again!

2 questions for you though...where's the link to the donation bit, and, if I fancied having a go at a review, how would I do that?

I removed it, I'm actually trying to work out how to cancel the last sub from one of our members, it's not fair to charge for it after next week when it's not costing me anything!

Only the Windows box costs me money, the Linux box is actually used for various other things which pay it's bills.

As for reviews, I think I need to bump up your account level so the right buttons appear.
