RE: Have Santander been compromised?

I had the bhlive email too, but to an account that I use for general stuff, ie not the private one for banking, family, etc

Seems we're not the only ones:

RE: VAT question

That changed a couple of years ago, which is why Play shut down its direct retail operation. It's now just like Amazon Marketplace. Play are adamant that I won't get charged any extra, HMRC are adamant that I will.

VAT question

I'm looking at getting a CD/DVD Boxset, which I couldn't afford when it came out here, but is now out of print in the UK.

I can get it on eBay from Italy for about £100 including P&P, or I can get it from Play.com for just over £80 with free P&P, but it ships from Canada.

I understand that I won't be liable for any charges for the one from eBay, as it's within the EU, but HMRC say that I will have to pay 20% VAT on the one from Play (although there would be no Import Duty, as it's below £135). I would imagine that Royal Mail would also add a chunk on...

However, Play's website clearly states
Quote:
VAT is included on all applicable products, If you need a VAT invoice, you'll need to contact the Seller directly to ask for one.
I've been on their online chat help, but they don't seem really sure.

Can anybody please clarify...

RE: Powerline Adapters (SOLVED)

After much faffing around it would appear that the Powerline adapters were interfering with the signal to my wireless mouse & keyboard, preventing them from working. Have reset them both with their receiver and all is good so far...

Thought I'd update in case anyone has the same problem in the future...

Powerline Adapters (SOLVED)

Evening all. It's been a while but I still check in every day...

I'm after a bit of advice please.

I have a pair of TP-Link TL-PA411KIT adapters to connect my PC in the study to the router in the living room - they are rated at 500Mbps, but the utility is showing them working at around 130Mbps.

My Broadband Speed is just under 40Mbps, which SpeedTest is agreeing with. In theory, there should be no reason for any issue that I can see.

However, when I download anything at all (even just running SpeedTest), my PC grinds to a halt - the mouse & keyboard don't work, etc.

If I have Task Manager running whilst downloading it suggests that everything is absolutely fine - nothing is getting anywhere near 100%

I've been racking my brains all day - have run every antivirus/malware program I could think of, all to no avail. I then ran a long ethernet cable straight from PC to router, et voila, everything works as usual.

I can understand that by using the Powerline adapters I might get a drop in internet speed, but I can't for the life of me work out why they should slow my PC down.

Over to you...

RE: So what happened?

Any chance of letting us in on the deal, or is it too late...?

RE: B*gger

I have Achilles Tendonitis in both heels, so sympathise. I take Naproxen twice a day to bring the inflammation down - had it for months...

PDF Creator

Can anyone recommend a decent, free PDF print driver please. Preferably one not bloated with free/malware.

RE: 3,350,370,730th

When you were born, you were the:
3,743,955,481st person alive on Earth
77,909,454,457th person to have lived since history began

It seems that there are some rather similar figures here...

Bags of white sugar are quite common in supermarkets, but not bags of brown sugar.

RE: HMV to appoint administrator.

Ours (Burton on Trent) is for the chop. That leaves That`s Entertainment as our only non-supermarket where I can get stuff...

RE: Can a teacher show an 18 rated film to a class of 13 year olds for the purposes of `education`?

Not sure if it`s illegal (I would imagine it is), but we`re certainly not, under any circumstances, allowed to show our students films that are above their age, even if it is for educational purposes. As much as anything else, it would be bad publicity for the school if the local press got hold of it...

Its seems burgers are also being removed from three other supermarket chains, due to the same horsey problem, though their percentage is 0.3% .
Will that be My Lidl Pony burgers?

RE: Tell us about your first DVD player / discs...

First DVD was Highlander (now that was a bad transfer...)
Can`t for the life of me remember what the brand of my first player was. It was an Asda own-brand and I think it started with S (not Smart Price!)

First Blu-ray, I think, was Spiderman 3, because it came with my big fat 40GB PS3, that I still use to this day.

Has anyone done an upgrade to Win8 from Win7? Rather than a reinstall type thing? Was it easy? Did you keep all your apps?
Yes, yes and yes

Opinions?

Evening all.

A group of lads that I teach are in a band called `Double Helix` and have won themselves a place at the Schools Prom on Monday night at the Royal Albert Hall. They went into one of our local studios last week and recorded one of their own songs, `What`s Your Next Plan?`

The song is available on Soundcloud:
http://soundcloud.com/doublehelixmusic/whats-your-next-plan

and they are currently appearing on the Albert Hall`s behind the scenes site:
http://life.royalalberthall.com/

Now, obviously, all friends & family, etc, love it, but I wouldn`t mind some unbiased opinions on the track...

RE: Windows 8

Quote:
installation went fairly smoothly, but for some reason none of the "apps" work?
clicking on mail simply displays a large envelope then goes straight back to the
start screen. this also happens with other apps. the only one which seems to work
is Internet explorer.
I had pretty much the same problem, although they didn`t go back to the Stat screen - it was just that nothing would load. Called Microsoft and, in all fairness, they`ve been great. I must have been on the phone to them for over 6 hours in total. Eventually it transpired that, somewhere in the past, the DNSClient Service had been disabled. Works a treat now and is so much quicker than Win 7 for me. I`ve even created my own shutdown button on the start screen
