Photobucket now payable

bandicoot (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 1st July 2017, 19:39

Charges are now being introduced on photobucket as its free account to store photos which makes you watch advertising, will no longer be free if you wish to embed photos on other website, which is its main function.

Thousands have now closed their account in disgust, myself included.

There are many more free photosharing websites out there to join instead, so I can see photobucket which is one of the biggest, becoming rather small soon.

They have cut their own throats with this one.

Honestly can't remember the last time I used PB for embedding. Most of the sites I visit have image posting anayway (this one included). It won't be missed

Agree a lot has wedsites have self image posting, but other do not, hence I was using photobucket for years, but its easy enough to find other websites.

Bye bye Photobucket.

it seems that Photobucket with 60 million members are so overwhelmed with people closing accounts, that they cannot keep up with it.

I put notice in on mine on the 1st to close account (after I had copied some photos I wanted to keep), and got a message saying 48hrs grace before account is closed, so that's the 3rd, and this is now the 5th and my account is still active.

That gave me a nudge to go and peruse the Caption compos and have a chuckle before the pictures get ransomed by PB.

I've found it pretty unusable for at least 2 years, I hate the 'library' thing and that you couldn't link from the thumbnails and had to go through loads of photos to find the one you wanted to link from.
Any easy ways to download all of my photos from it?

It's a bit of a faff. Go to your bucket, and you can download each folder by a right click I think. It takes a bit of time, then it sends you an email with a link for the download. If you have any gifs, you'll have to download those individually.

It was only when this started hitting the tech headlines I realised I had an account which I hadn't (still haven't) accessed for years.

I've had no notifications from them as I think it was registered to a now defunct email address. I'm assuming stuff will just get deleted eventually.
