Browser change

Snaps (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 10th June 2020, 22:19

I've been using Chrome for ages but as it's been winding me up for a while, not least with the 'Flash player will not be supported' nag message.
Had an occasional foray back into Firefox but it felt a bit slow and sort of top heavy.
So I've switched to Edge.

First impressions favourable, especially after I figured out how to use Chrome themes on it and persuaded it that Bing was not the search engine of choice.

Must say switching was fairly seamless with all extensions coming across with just a click or two. Slight pause for thought as it was using t'other half's Hotmail as the default account but all's sorted now.

Is it the new Edge - that does seem to be getting good reviews in fairness.
I still use Firefox and like the sync options for accounts etc that work across all devices - but sure that chrome's and Edge both have that now. Although Edge would probably require a M$ account that I don't have.
I've been using Chrome a lot more recently out of necessity really (we've moved from Office to G Suite in work). Some things I just can't get used to but will all be workaroundable (that should be a word!) with extensions etc. Such as simply having a list of Favourites on the side instead of a bar across the top.

I use Firefox for my main browser (on Mac and PC), if it's slow you can freshen it up easily. I much prefer their privacy policy.

I still use Chrome for development work, and I used to use Safari to play YouTube videos but I just got a new Macbook and it actually seems to support hardware acceleration on Firefox for videos finally, so now I don't have to!

Edge now uses the Chrome engine, which may be why it's usable now ;)

I think it's technically Chromium.

Yes definitely the new one and I knew it was based on Chromium which, along with the positive reviews it had, persuaded me to swap over.
I'm not a massive fan of Microsoft. I know a lot of their stuff is pretty good and industry standard but I've never found anything that I can't do on Libre Office and their whole reference and support system seems impenetrable to me.

Does it wear a compulsory beanie?

I still haven't found want I'm looking for.

After swapping to Edge about three weeks ago where everything went smooth as, with everything working seamlessly, suddenly yesterday it reverts to it's default settings and signs me out of every damn site.

So I'm now getting a series of emails from everyone and his mother when I sign back in flagging up this strange new sign in, which is me.

Any idea why it would have done this? There was no notification that any update of either Windows or Edge had taken place.

Did you do anything with your Windows account? The one you sign into Windows with? That's the only thing I can think of, other than it's a bug. :(
