Social media

There's been a trend recently on Twitter to block Elon Musk, apparently 2 million in the UK have done so, as he seems to have gone full doolally with stuff he retweets and likes.
This seems to have coincided with a lot more people moving to Threads.
More of the higher profile people than seems to have been the case in previous rushes to the life boats of other platforms.

Has anyone else noticed the same?

I left when he brought twitter and won’t be back, nothing will change until one of the social media platforms is held to account and one of the bosses imprisoned

yeh I've noticed a few more celebrities trying threads recently, and another surge of "I'm dumping Twitter/X posts"

Twitter/X does seem to get more and more full of crap not related to people I follow, and there's a really annoying trend of completely unrelated replies to the original post, annoying when the original post was interesting, and you wanted to read genuine answers/thoughts/opinions, rather than links to only fan sites or lots of memes :(

The slow exodus continues, the reason it's slow is because people don't want to lose their followers and have to build it up all over again on another platform. Which is fair enough, I guess.

Also, I think some people try somewhere else, don't get the engagement and just think, "oh it's dead here" not realising they need to learn a new platform and how it works, and put in a load of effort all over again.

Partially but I've never had a load of followers and if I chose to bother probably half of them are bots, even though I block porn bots as soon as they appear.

The reason I stay with Twitter is loads of people I follow only engage on there.
They may have accounts on the other platforms but they still haven't jumped ship from Twitter.

That's the other side of the same thing, nobody wants to move somewhere and it be quiet.

I can honestly say I've probably never used twitter in the last 15 years or so, even then it was amazingly sporadic. The plus side was Edgar Wright retweeted me one, which was a highlight, but that was more or less my swansong.

But yeah, it's a catastrophic shiatshow now. Any platform that reinstates accounts of known fascists, alleged & convicted sexual offenders and notorious arseholes isn't a force for good

Having signed up for Threads it seems that more than the other sites I've signed up for it's the place of refuge for an awful lot of my Twitter follows.

Half (probably more) of the Arsenal world seem to be there already and significant news and media accounts also.
Currently curating my Twitter follows as to who's moved.
Once that's done I'm likely to be on Musk's mess less and less.

Brazil has banned x , hopefully setting a trend for misinformation and failure to nominate a representative in the country, western governments should follow suit asap
