Did anyone see the genetically modified chickens on the news yesterday? Not a feather in sight.
Speaking for myself,I thought it was disgusting.
Can`t see it taking off.(no pun intended)
I saw the story, while its all very clever, I`m not sure I agree with the idea of scientists tampering with evolution.
For anyone that missed the story its available on http://www.reuters.co.uk/news_article.jhtml?type=humannews&StoryID=988610# (Mods hope its not against the rules to post the URL)

I am curious as to whether or not this breaches regulations on animal cruelty, as it seems difficult to surmise that it doesn`t. Still, it`s somehow pointless to empathise with animals whose inevitable destiny is to be slaughtered for the digestion of humans, although, equally, how does this differ from any other animal contained for the peculiar appetites of humans? The genetic alteration is a big factor for most, something for which I have a deep indifference toward (if any puritan wants to convince me that there is an `essence` of the perfect tomato, they are welcome to try.)

" God, Schmod... I Want my Monkey Man!"
If people think that man made creations like this is a new thing then think again. The manipulation of genes has been done for centuries through selective breeding and given us hundreds of different types of dogs from a few basic domesticated wolves, various strands of bovine, and not to mention loads of horrible cats.
You could also argue that hairless chickens who are better equipped to survive hot houses which chickens are going to be brought up in anyway, is actually less cruel to chickens.
I do think though that there is a line which shouldn`t be crossed, but I don`t think this chicken crosses it. I think the strong reaction against the thing is because it is ugly, and that makes people subconciously think what has been done to it is cruel merely because they prefer the look of a chicken with feathers.
I`m sure overall chickens don`t care if they are born with feathers or not, and maybe they`d prefer to not have them if they are going to spend a long time in a hot environment.
Im not sure where i stand on this one. Although i do find it repulsive, i cant say that im really thinking about the animal when im tucking into My KFC zinger tower burger.
