Page 1 of cd drives under xp

hi i`ve just upgraded mine and my daughters pcs to xp, on hers the dvd rom will only play audio cds and not data cds or dvds, on mine the scsi ultraplex plays but the dvd rom will only play audio and data cds and not dvds. my dvdrom is pretty old but hers is new an lg model so it should have been ok with win xp.i`ve d/l all the updates ne1 got any ideas.

You could try checking that ASPI drivers are installed. You need a small program called ASPICheck to do this. Run a search for it on Google, if you can`t find it let me know and I`ll upload it to my site for you. These ASPI drivers are normally only needed for "ripping" audio tracks and CDRW drives but its worth a try.

already done that i`ve got it working now anyway, for some reason i had to untick dma in the properties, worked in me.thanx for the help anyway

Maybe you need new motherboard chipset drivers for XP to allow DMA?

If you have a legit licensed of XP then you can contact Microsoft Support in the first 30 or 90 days - somefink like that. Check under XP Help for further info
