anybody heard of a Samsung M105i dvd player? need vcd hack
Hi if anyone knows of this player or if it is the same as another player could you let me know please? I`m looking for a vcd hack for it, and i can`t find one anywhere.
Cheers

I`m not aware of an "i" variant, but if it`s the same as the regular M105 then it doesn`t need a hack to play VCDs. However, it only has a single-wavelength laser unit, so it can only read conventional (non-recordable) compact discs, *not* CD-R/CD-RW.
In other words, you can play commercial VCDs bought from a shop, but not ones you`ve created yourself on a PC with CD writer.

i have an -m105 & a 709- both very similar models and whilst mike is absolutly correct in saying they don`t support cd-r`s their are a couple of brands that will work look for low speed cdr`s then copy them at no more than 2x when you find one that works stick to that brand (sorry i can`t help you with the brand name`s but it`s been ages since i used vcd)

Princo. Even then, they`re not guaranteed to work 100% - and I`m not sure they make that formulation any more.

I need a VCD hack also. I rather flog the M105 and buy one that can play VCD`s! I have heard that the M105 can play ripped off VCD`s as long as they are on the right make of CD! Any ideas? please...........
RE: anybody heard of a Samsung M105i dvd player? need vcd hack
Er, didn`t I already answer that point? :-)
To elaborate further - Princo is the make of CD you`re looking for (they have been sold under a few different names, including BTC and Vivastar), but even those are not 100% guaranteed to work, and I`m not even sure that they make that particular dye formulation any more...
The reason most CD-Rs don`t work on the M105 is that they`re not reflective enough to be picked up by the player`s single wavelength laser. (DVD players that are fully CD-R compatible have a dual wavelength laser, which is optimised for reading CDs as well as DVDs.)
Basically - yep, you`ll have a much less stressful life if you flog the M105 and buy a DVD player that was designed to read CD-Rs in the first place.
