Minato G-1 and Playstation 2 Region hacks required

leigh_303 (Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 10th January 2001, 19:02

All,
I`m interested to to find out if either of these DVD players can be hacked? I`ve heard that the Minato is based on the Wharfedale 750 and it would be great to get a multi region player for £100!!!
I`d really appreciate it if anyone in the know could forward me the Hacks.
Thanx:

I have also purchased this DVD player and I am impressed. I have tried several hacks but still unable to play region 1 films.
Can someone please come up with something quickly as if I dont get it working by Friday I am going to return it to tescos.

Hey Steve,

Yeah, it plays V-CD`s? I`ve bought one and it says in the manual that it won`t play them. Cool. Well, good luck with taking it apart, someone told me it`s based on the Wharfedale 750, but I could be wrong, could you tell us in a minute?

Cheers, Andy

it`s most certainly not based on a Wharfedale 750 ... maybe a 750s cos I`ve never seen one so dont know ... BUT the 750S hacks do not work and neither does it work if you hardware hack the player using the same method as a 750S ... one glimmer of light though ...

Macro*ision can be disabled using a chip :) Great news for those people who sell them :)

On the negative side if you have a scratch or 50 on your DVD like you will have if you use it for testing all the time like me you can forget it in this player ... it doesnt want to know ... nice unscratched DVD`s only please which is why I was so surprised that it read CDR ...

Oh right, they must`ve been wrong then. There`s a bloke called Mooba who said that he`s changed it to region 1 using his remote, but he can`t change it back to region 2. He said that he`d used one of the most common remote hacks to do it as well.

I have made a positive ID ... the answer was staring me in the face on my own site :)

The link below shows a picture of part of the PCB .... this picture was taken of a Wharfedale 750S .. it is the same PCB as the Minato G-1

My Wharfedale 750S macro disable chip works fine on this player (after brief testing will test more later)

BUT trying to chip it like a 750S doesnt work ... I`ll try these remote hacks now but I never have any damn luck with these :(

Cool, could you tell us whether the remote hack works? I`m new to this game and don`t really know what I`m doing? I`m used to messing about with PSX`s.

:)
