RE: Unlocking Samsung DVD on a Dell PC
Hi, The reason that the patch asks for a blank floppy is that the upgrade requires the computer to boot from dos to run the patch. When you insert the floppy, follow the instructions to create the disk and then restart your PC with the disk in the floppy drive. You will need to make sure that the PC searches for "a" drive during boot up. This will then flash your DVD-ROM drives firmware chip. IMPORTANT, DO NOT touch ANY of the keyboard keys during the flash procedure, DO NOT switch off or reset the PC either. This will render your drive usless.
DVD Genie will need to be installed and set up for auto insert for you to watch foreign dvd`s, both the patch and DVD Genie are requirments on any PC DVD-ROM. I have carried out these firmware upgrades on dozens of PC`s and I have not had any go wrong, BUT you must understand that there IS a risk involved, that is the reason for all the warnings. One other piece of advice is to ensure you have the VERY latest patch for you model of DVD-ROM drive, check your existing firmware version and then match this to any compatible patch. I have not checked out if this site has patches for PC drives but there are a couple of links below. I hope that this will be of some help. byeee!!!!

swanseauk, maybe you can help my dad and I.
A couple of hours ago his shiny new laptop arrived, fitted with a toshiba SD-R2212 DVD ROM/CD-RW combi drive. Although the dvd players in our house are multiregion, I`m the only one who owns any non R2 discs.
I have never seen the need to hack my pc dvd drive, but my dad goes away on a lot of training courses, and wants to borrow most of my dvd collection, so he wont be able to watch my R1s if the drive locks on the laptop (which it obviously will).
Now, you say that to flash the firmware, you must insert a floppy which will be read when the system boots up. The problem here being that the laptop does not have a floppy drive!
How do you suggest I get around this? I have looked on rpc1.com and found the firmwares for this player (http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=291), but how do i know exactly which one to use, as I dont know what firmware is in use at the moment.
Anyone out there think that they can help?
Thanks in advance
