Can computer DVD players be hacked?

I have just got a DVD player on my computer. I was wondering if this region hack thing works for computers as well.
It is a Hitachi GD-5000 IDE DVD
Can anyone help?

Well I dont know much about PC DVD players, but I know that you can get software hacks for the program you use to watch DVDs with.
I remember a download called "DVD Genie" (I think) and it was a hack program that could region-unlock most software out today.
Search for it dude.

yes they can, you don`t say if you have a decoder, or if it is hardware or software?
