If you mean which is going to win, no one knows for sure yet. It is a matter of personal choice as to which format you go for and chose one which is most sutable for you.
I use the DVD+R/W format and don`t have any problems with it, it does the job I want and thats all that matters. Others will be able to give advise regarding the DVD-R/W.
P.S. This post would probablly be best in the "Hardware" forum. 8)

Get a multi-format rewriter, but hold off on the standalone machine perhaps. I went with the + formats personally but there`ll be dozens out there trying to get you to go for - or RAM. Have a look around the web at the different formats` support pages and make your own mind up.

Forget about the format war scare. This is not betamax v VHS. Both DVD-R and DVD+R will play on most modern dvd players including dvd recorders that record in the opposite format (ie. DVD-R will replay in DVD+R recoders and vice versa). The problem is with the re-writeable stuff such as DVD+RW and DVD-RW (DVD-RAM is really computer stuff and very wonderful but replays on vitually none of to-days players except the most modern Panasonics). The real issue is the reliability of the actual recorders where DVD-R seems better. If Phillips, the inventors of DVD+R had better quality control they would have swept the field for a dvd recorder to replace the family Video. As it is things will improve swiftly now that the Chinese are entering the recorder market.
PS: Commercial DVDs play in every machine (provided the regional coding is ok or the machine is region free).
