Sound systems and Aiwa XD 480

Hello everyone!

I know its been a long time since I have been to this forum and almost forgot about it! How could I ever do that is beyond me but anyways am still here! :):)

Haven`t been keeping upto date with DVD hardware and related stuff so thought I`d ask here for some advice / suggestions! Have done a serach on forum and can only find posts relating to multi-region hacks!

Question is, I have got a Aiwa XD 480 DVD player (yeah I know old player but still going strong since 2002/3!) and have recently been thinking of a 5.1 souround sound system for it. Question is, is there any `active` systems for this player since all I have on the player is an `optical out` and `digital out` sockets on the rear of the player.

What would work with my player?

Thankyou in advance.

RE: Why was I sent a password reminder?

Hi all :)

Me too was a tad bit confussed since I`d never asked for a password reminder! Was woundering if there had been some hacking going on, however since the mods sent them out I guess all is well.

RE: PHILIPS DVD 703 - BLOCKED

Quote:
Not the same model but sounds like yours may have the same fault.

How many more times, this is not a fault of the player, even tho it it not known why it goes into this mode, it is known as a delear lock and can be unlocked by powering down the machine, the pressing the eject, stop and play buttons whilst plugging the machine back into the power. I`ve had this happen to my Phillips DVD recorder and managed to unblock it by myself so I know its possible to do.

(It might just be the eject button you need to hold down, can`t remember which now, just one of the combinations works.)

Sorry to sound blunt at the beging and hope all goes well, let us know how you get on.

RE: Phillips car Stereo

Without the model number, it will be impossible to know how to enter the code as there is a number of different ways to enter codes on the whole range of Philips radios. Is it possible to take the radio out and have a look at the sticker on the case without disconeting anything of course?

What model number is the radio?

RE: question about sky

Leave your existing Sky viewing card in and you will still be able to recive the free chanels. We have done the same thing. Just ring BskyB up and tell them you want to leave and providing you hav being with them more then 12 months, you keep the box plus dish.

Best of luck

RE: want a good but cheap GPS/sat nav

There is no need for Traffic Master, if you get a Sat Nav system with TMC (Traffic Message Channal) enabled, it should recive Traffic reports by radio (normaly classic FM in the UK) and will automaticaly redirect you around the traffic jam.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Have you finalized the DVD+R first?

RE: WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!!!

I actually DID record in VR mode but now obviously my question is....why have VR mode if you cant get it to playback? I`m a newbie to all this stuff but i just dont understand the need for a function which renders the dvd useless to any other player!!!

This is 1 of my ressons for going down the +VR route. There is no different mode`s, and you do not have to finilise them. You can then edit, re-record, erase etc and still play the disk back in any other player.

RE: Philips DVDr610 BLOCKED message

This is not a fault. I have responed before to this problem. It is known as a dealer lock and can be un-blocked by turning the unit off, then connecting the power whist holding down the power/standby bunton as you switch on the mains. It might also be the play/pusue and stop butons but Im sure its the power/standby butons you hav to press.

Hope this helps and let us know how you get on.

Jimbo :oÞ posted

Aha, but no more Oggie old boy....LiteOn just made it all go pear shaped again and we now have a dual-layer capable, hard drive included with firewire in recorder currently on display in the shop

That sounds very good. Is it a DVD+R DL recorder? Can you link me to it? Might get it to replace my Philips if its a DVD+ recorder.

Thanks in advance.

RE: Philips DVDR610 troubles

Quote:
cutting off pin 8 sounds like a good idea, but i don`t link the thought of messing with the scart lead, they are pretty expensive.....though i could try it with the one that came with the unit...
i`ll give it a go and see how it works out....

Just to say, the scart leads Philips supply with their players all seem to have 1 pin missing to start with! I noticed this when connecting up my Philips DVDR880. As I have had a couple of replacements, they have all being the same. So why not give it a try and see if that helps?

Let us all know how u get on.

Happy new year.

Interestingly the standalone code generator I had produced exactly the same codes, but with one digit`s value being +1 greater. :/

Thats because you calculated verson 2 codes. There is only one digit differece between verson 1 unlock codes and verson 2.

Best useing verson 2 codes for greater reliablity.

Happy new year.

RE: MICO Espejo R311. DVD Recorder. I have one. First thoughts.

Quote:
From memory at this point you need to be operating the machine via the front panel not the remote.

You need to be operating the machine by the remote, the buttons on the front will not work at this stage untill after you have set it up. The mssage "Is TV on" is displayed on all DVD+RW recorders on initil start-up and yes, most people mistake it for a faulty unit.

You can try reseting it back to factory settings or you can set it up manualy by going into the set-up menu.

BTW: The unit will work with any TV that has a scart socket, old or new.

Hope this helps. Happy Christmas.

The only reason people may be going for them is because they are unaware what a pile of crap they are buying.

RE: Website recommendation for Sat. Nav system - www.audio66.com??

Hi all, thankyou all for replying. I finally bought a Sat. Nav system, a head unit and got it proffesstionally fitted. (Sorry about the spelling.)

Once again, thankyou.

RE: dvd players - dual layer compatability

Ive got a Dual layer writer and from my expariance, its down to the media you use. Ive found Traxdata disks no good, not even in the writer that wrote it. I have however had great results with Verbitin one`s. Make sure you set "booktype" on them as "DVD-ROM" and you won`t have much bother with them.

I think most of the compatability issues with DVD+ has being down to this booktype setting. I have had no problems if they are set to "DVD-ROM". (And please, do not let this start another + vs - argument, I would not want to be responsible for starting one, thankyou all.)

RE: What are process modules?

Process modules are a module of code which the main programme can call to. Say for example Internet Explorer: There is the main programme that you use. You type in an address for example, IE in turn passes that address onto the code contained in the module to carry out the search etc. Once the modlue has found the page you typed, it then transfers the page to IE. (Example by the way)

That is as simple of expanaiton I can give to discribe it. Hope that helps.

RE: DVD-RAM more proof. Just lend it out because more people have DVD-RAM recorders.

Quote:
I still stand by my statement that I think the majority of people could not give a stuff about lendability.
They want something for their own use,not the convenience of others.

OK, say i recored a programme off TV and I then go to work and tell a work colleage about this programme I recored and out of the blue they ask if they can borrow it.
"I recorded it onto a RAM disk" I say.
"Oh sorry my DVD player will not play that" the collague says.

All this because I didn`t take it into conisadration. What we are looking for is a standerd recording and play back system. Why introduce RAM when we already had DVD set out as a standered I don`t know.

I remember a day when I used to go down to my friends with a video I recorded and it would play in their player, now what do you have to do? Take your recorder with you aswell? This is why I went down the DVD+ route when I bought my recorder a couple of years back. Back then there was not alot of options in regard to DVD-RW etc.

And by the way, DVD+RW media has to stand no less then 10,000 re-writes for it to become certified. I don`t know what the figeres are for DVD-RW tho.

RE: Does the basic DVD-RW Video Mode have the same basic rename, split and erase options as DVD+RW?

Why call DVD-RAM a DVD-RAM?? It is a standred of it own as it does not compliy to full DVD spec hence its incompatilby with other players. The phyiscal layout of the data is not the same as on a DVD and the way the data is accessed is different so why the "DVD" part at the bigging I don`t work out?? Anyone like to fill me in an this?? Thankyou.

RE: Spybot S&D problem

It keeps poping up because although you yourself is not trying to install it, whichever website you are on is trying to install it itself. It doesn`t have to be a dodgy site. Just a nice inicent site could install it.

There sould be an option in Spybot S&D to automaticly block this without poping up dialogs 24/7.

Hope this helps.

RE: Transferring DVD-RAM to DVD Video on PC

Now there`s 5 folders marked "EXT" "EXTRA" "MPEG2" "SEGMENT" "SVCD"

Defino` a SVCD. I do not know of any other format with this file stucture. The "EXTRA" folder should contain menu info, and "MPEG" should contian the actual movie. This you can copy over to a DVD as I`ve done myself with one I made ages ago.

I hope I got this info correct, any please correct me if I`m wrong, thankyou.

RE: Website recommendation for Sat. Nav system - www.audio66.com??

Some good points there Jimbo : oÞ. Thanks. I can see now there are pros and cons to both. I still feel the head unit would be the best option for me as I would like a tidy fit aswell. A head unit fascia is more portable from my point of view. I do relise that the CD`s for head units cost upwards of about £100 from what the local dealer told me but only need upgrading about once every 2 - 3yrs he said.

Quote:
They are also NO MORE accurate than the PDA based ones

That I`m not to sure on as head uints are wired to a speed sensor in the engine which make them more accurate so I`ve being told. Any more input apreachatied, thanks.

Think I need to do more resurch (sp)

RE: Website recommendation for Sat. Nav system - www.audio66.com??

Thankyou for your relpies, I`ll take a look. However I was wanting a head unit as I don`t want to have to carry around he front panal from my CD play and a PDA around with me, would much sooner carry a front panal from a head unit sat. nav system (sorry I should have mentioned this in my first post.)

Anyways once again, thankyou for your help. If anyone else knows of any infomation I`d be very thankfull.
