Hi,

Does anyone know whether the multi-region hack for the Acoustic Solutions DVD421 works if it is adevrtised as Region 2, or does it have to be advertised by the seller as multi-region? Price difference is £30!!!

No. The hack doesn`t work on the advertised Region 2 machines as they have an older non-hackable firmware, hence they`re now around £30 to buy. The newer versions can be hacked

RE: Acoustic Solutions DVD421, much better players around for little extra cost.

I advise you steer well clear of the Acoustic Solutions DVD421, despite some good reviews that I have seen for this player, I owned one for just over a week and took it back to Richer Sounds, the Region 2 version may only be £29.95 but there are far better players out there for little extra cost.

No the Region 2 version cannot be hacked, I have tried and the firmware must be different as it does not give you the option of region changing. I sent an email to the bods at Acoustic Solutions asking if there was a firmware upgrade for the unit and got the following response :

Thank you for your email.

There is no firmware upgrade for this player.

For information regarding multi-regional DVD players, please contact your retailer who will be able to help you

Bad window of vision with the remote control, ugly menu structure, and noisy mechanism when playing DVD`s, no RGB on scart output, topped with the strange problem I encountered of a "mettallic" noise without proper sound occasionaly when I switched on the player in both CD and DVD playing mode ensured the trip back to return the unit.

Thankfully I snapped up from KwikSave the bargain DeccaVideo DDV214, for just £37.49, worth paying the extra £8 for. Better looking player, better menu structure using the Mediatek chipset, RGB Scart output, multi region hackable in 2 minutes. :)
