philips 711 help me with this 1

nico-01 (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 17th February 2001, 11:57

Hi i am a new user 2 this site,i have
recently got a philips 711,i think it is a old
model as i have seen some with air
vents on the top and mine doesnt.
I was just wondering if there was
a way to tell which firmware you
were using.i know it plays the matrix
and independence day r1 ok but it locks
up while playing the kid at the fbi warning.
If this has already been asked im sorry
please let me know,im very interested to find out

Turn on your DVD from standby. Select OSD (On Screen Display) using remote. Scroll down the `Personal Preferences` options (the one on the left with the face) right to the bottom. At the bottom is the `Access Control` options. Move across right into the `Access Control` options. Then scroll down the Access Control options and when you get to the bottom of the list scroll down once again and if my magic the DVD software version appears.

It is likely to be 7.03 ---- something. The lack of vent on the top of your machine is not relevant, and does not reflect an older model as you imply.
You do not need to update your software unless you want to copy DVDs using your computer

You will have no problem making your machine region free with a `One for All` programmable remote if you so wish.

Hope this is helpful

I believe that there have been a lot of problems with "the kid" on DVD...so don`t worry......it`s not your machine....

try it on another player to make sure....and contact your retailer

With the multi region One for All hack, RCE is not a problem.

Great isn`t it!
