Philips DVDR 610 - Jedi Master help needed!!

Some Jedi Master must be able to perform some lightsaber (handset) handiwork on this machine, and make it multi-region.

I have tried the old Jedi mind trick ("You don`t need to check the region coding... The disc is the correct region... move along, move along") but it`s will is too strong!!

I feel the force is strong in this group - Help me Obi-Wan, you`re my only hope!!

End in tears the quest to multiregion Philips kit will, my young Padawan.

The 610, like all Philips kit, can be hacked permanently using one of those All For One type handsets and the relevant code - as per the note about Philips hacking at the top of the forum page.

HOWEVER, Philips kit is supposed to be upgraded regularly by uploading new firmware from their website, burning it to CD and then running it in the machine. Multiregioned machines have been known to simply die when you try to upgrade them. Philips also get ratty about the warranty.

As anyone with Philips kit will also tell you, the reliability of these machines is such that I personally am inclined to use mine only as a recording machine and I never use it for playback, using my trusty Alba 113 (bought a few years back from Argos and readily hackable) for playback.
