DVDR70 Multiregion hack:
1)Via the "System" button on your Philips remote, on your recorder (no disk in recorder), change the "Remote control used" from "DVD Recorder" to "DVD Player". Store it. (This is IMPORTANT)
: 2)On your Philips remote press Play 159
The display on the recorder should now change to eleven dashes.
: 3) Still using your PHILIPS remote, tap in 121 212 005 255 (the last few digits will NOT be visible on screen but they WILL be there). Now press "Play" on your PHILIPS remote.
: 4)Power down your recorder, wait a few seconds and Voila!!. You now have a region-free beastie!!
: 5)..Via the "System" button on your Philips remote, on your recorder (no disk in recorder), change the "Remote control used" from "DVD Player" to "DVD Recorder". Store it.

THAT`S IT ! HAVE FUN !

I have done the hack given and it has made my DVDR70 into a region 1 machine, but will not play UK Region 2 DVDs now.
How do I make it truely multi regional OR back as it was?
Anyone used the above and been OK or had my problem?

I have just invested in a Region 1 DVD and looking to change my Phillips DVDR70 into multi region.
I am very interested to find out if davidpark was able to solve his problem before I attempt to follow the above instructions.

I was given 121 212 005 002 to make it region 2 only again and it did.

No I have not been able to do any thing more, I just hope someone comes up with more info.
Let us know if you have ago and if it worked for you please.

So I know 121 212 005 001 makes it region 1 only.
but the MR number given does not work 121 212 005 255

But I`ve been warned continual changing is limited (25?) in the number of times you can do it then machine locks up.

If you have an One For All remote this hack works just fine.

Programe the AUX or DVD button to work with the Phillips DVDR70 , read the manual on how to do that, and I used the code 0646

Turn the DVD on, with no disk

Press the Magic button, then 085 and dashes come up on the DVD display

Press 121 212 005 255 ( the 255 is not visible so be careful to press the corect buttons)

Pressed Play button on handset ( Very Important )

Turned the DVD off, and counted to 10

Turned the DVD on, and it was successfully region free.

Happy movie watching :)

CORRECTION Region Hack for a Phillips DVDR70 needed

delanmo (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 18th January 2005, 16:32

I have followed this thread with much interest. Am I to understand that making the Philips machine multi-region with the informaation given, I will be able to copy some non-copyright NTSC tapes from a multi-region VCR on to disc now? At the moment I can play Region One discs on the Philips but am unable to copy tapes to disc, as it says disc is different format. Thanks, Derek.

Hi, I have the DVDR75 and you can copy NTSC videos from an NTSC video player as long as you only put all NTSC videos on the disc as it won`t let you mix it with PAL videos.
