Hi other users,

Has anyone been able to find how to switch off macrovision for the Wharfedale M5 ?

I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

ardie

Hi there Ardie.

I`ve been reliably informed Futuretronic will do a `modification` for £50, but I`m holding back on going public on this until I know exactly what this entails.

Maybe the cynic in me, but I`m not convinced there`s a mod going on here at all, just a few numbers being tapped into the remote control.

As Futuretronic hold the UK franchise for the Sampo DVE360 in the shape of the Digitron DVS360 (a similar player to the Wharfey) it could be possible that they simply have the hack code for the player. If so, charging £50 is well out of order. (For your info, all Sampo players can be hacked one way or another, so I consider it very unlikely there`s a mod involved here).

I`m doing some discrete investigations at the moment - as soon as I know you`ll know.

Check up http://www.area450.co.uk for updates on this.

Rather than getting your dvd player chipped to disable macrovision, it`s better to get an external decoder. Techtronics offer an upgrade that disables macro and upgrades your player to a multi region player. However, this will make your manufacturer`s warrenty void. at sonel.com, they offer an external macro disabler for about £30. You won`t loose your warrenty this way and an external decoder is more versitile in use.

Navs,

Have you actually bought and tried this macro disabler and more importantly does it work?

Nas.

clayts surely that is not the video encoder ... see this site the video encoder is the ADV7171 not the ESS chip
