I am also interested in a remote hack for the philips. However it seems the only way to permenatly remove the region codes, is to have the player chiped.

However if I`m wrong, I would be interested to know the method!!!

Hi
there is a " service" remote that you use to permanently remove the block and it also resets your dvd player to region 0
I have the unit and will not ask you to buy it but simply pay a small loan charge and use it .registered post is the preferred method
say 25 pounds ?

You need the service remote
I have it available and will not ask you to buy it but simply pay a small loan charge
this will re set your dvd to region 0 ,you can play all 1-5 region dvd;s
All I ask is that you use registered post to protect the remote

25 pounds charge is not bad compared to what others offer

It has been confirmed that all dvd players that are region 0 will not play new discs with R.C.encoding on them.we now have a region select mod for this machine which over comes this.
So remote programming is ok for short term but region 1 discs after 24th october with R.C.E will be implented.Christmas time region 2 will also have R.C.E.

The philips service remote does NOT make the player Region 0 .... cant you get any facts right ?? it makes the player fully auto region ... it remains to be seen if a philips player set to auto region will play the new disk though .....

We have a manual and auto mod for all the philips models ....

BOTH pseudo-region 0 and multiregion players will be affected by the RCE
protection. The disc will ask the player if it is region 0. If it answers "yes"
then the disc will not play. However, it will also ask if it is region 1, and
then it will ask if it is region 2, etc. If it replies "yes" to more than one
region, then again the disc will not play, no matter what region the disc is
or what region the player was before the mod. The ONLY way around this (for
now, at least) is a manual, user-controlled, region switch.

[And Steve, please try and be a bit more polite! I know that some of the other people who post here are your rivals but this is not the place for competitive bickering...]
